Breathe deep...and get over it: Clinton supporters should mourn, but how could they vote for McCain?
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | June 8, 2008 | Sally Kalson

Posted on 06/07/2008 10:08:42 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

One of the weirder themes of this Democratic primary season was the loyalists' cry that if their candidate lost, they'd take revenge by voting for the very guy who opposes most of what their idol stands for.

This scorched-earth approach was evident in both camps. Hillary Clinton supporters swore they'd vote for John McCain if their gal didn't win, and Barack Obama fans vowed to do likewise if their guy lost.

Some of it could be chalked up to the heat of passion during a close, grueling race. But some of it was, excuse the expression, just plain bitterness.

You could almost hear these folks fuming under their breath -- "If I can't get (insert name) in charge of health care, the war and the Supreme Court, then dammit, I'm going for the fellow who'll set us back another 100 years! That'll show 'em!"

Never mind that Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama are so close on the issues that they had to find other things to argue about, while Mr. McCain thinks the free market is doing a fine job on health insurance, would be fine with 100 years of U.S. involvement in Iraq and promises to appoint justices that right-wing Christians will love.

This family feud among the Democrats has never been about issues. It's been about a lot of other things, even if the distinctions weren't always fair or accurate:

• History (the first woman presidential nominee vs. the first African American one)

• Symbolic redress of centuries of grievances (sexism vs. racism)

• Age and experience (seasoned pro who's earned it vs. relative newcomer promising to shake things up)

• Style (war horse vs. race horse)

• Class (blue and pink collar vs. college-educated)

• Tone (dogged determination vs. rhetorical uplift)

I wish John McCain was half as conservative as this lady makes him out to be: I'm voting for him, because a President Barack Hussein Obama is completely unthinkable!

How could they vote for B. Hussein Obama? That’s the real question.

‘Class: blue and pink collar vs college educated”

You have got to be kidding me! The Naval Academy vs Columbia?? USC (Cindy) vs Princeton(Michelle MaBelle)? This woman should just admit she's part of the leftist MSM. The McCain's have more class in their little fingers than the Obamas have in their multi-million dollar mansion in Chicago's Hyde Park.

I think she meant Hillary’s supporters vs. Obama’s, but either way, she’s wrong. I think the democrats will be stunned at how many of their flock cross over to vote for John McCain in November.

Me too! I can’t believe any thinking person wants this country to be ruled by a Marxist. I’m hoping for a landslide in November. And McCain was never my first choice. I’m just going with the best choice available.

Heck, maybe Hillary’s supporters are happy to vote for McCain, so that Obama isn’t an incumbent president running for re-election in 2012.

But then what about their love of abortion rights? Ruth Bader Ginsburg and John Paul Stevens are very likely to retire from the Supreme Court in the next four years. McCain may appoint conservative replacements.

Never mind that Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama are so close on the issues that they had to find other things to argue about,...

And because of this, party loyalty will trump all. The Dems will vote for Obama regardless of what they are saying now. Five months is forever in politics.

McCain may appoint conservative replacements.

I'm quite sure they don't have to worry about that.

I had always thought the cause of liberalism was due to hippie mothers ingesting too much alcohol and drugs during pregnancy. The Patriot Post has a far better explanation.

Leftists politicos tend to be chronic overachievers because they have suffered significant loss — often the result of the disconnect with their earthly fathers. They subscribe to rigid doctrines and “nanny state” regimes to satiate their persistent insecurity, the result of low self-esteem and arrested emotional development associated, predominantly, with fatherless households or critically dysfunctional families in which they were not adequately affirmed.

Obama manifests all of these characteristics, and clinically speaking, there is a diagnosis. Leftists are pathological case studies of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, as outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders — the standard reference used for psychiatric evaluation.

Of course, there are many conservatives who were raised by a single parent or in critically dysfunctional or impoverished homes. However, somewhere along the way, they were lifted out of their misery by the grace of God — often in the form of a significant mentor who modeled individual responsibility and character. As a result, they have the courage to internalize their locus of responsibility.

Leftists, on the other hand, externalize responsibility for problems and solutions by holding others to blame for their ills, and by bestowing upon the state the duty for arbitrating proper conduct — even proper thought.

A footnote: It’s no coincidence that conservative political bases tend to be suburban or rural, while liberal political bases tend to be urban. The social, cultural and economic blight in many urban settings are Leftist breeding grounds for legions of the disenfranchised, those who are largely dependent on the state for all manner of their welfare, protection and sustenance.

These legions identify with Barack Obama. That is the substance, the essence of Obama.

Barack Hussein Obama, says of his nominees, “We need somebody who’s got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom, the empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old and that’s the criteria by which I’ll be selecting my judges.”

John McCain says of his nominees, “The duties and boundaries of the Constitution are not just a set of helpful suggestions. They are not just guidelines to be observed when it’s convenient and loosely interpreted when it isn’t. In federal and state courts there are still men and women who understand the proper role of our judiciary and I intend to find them and promote them. My nominees will understand that there are clear limits to the scope of judicial power.”

Some will vote for McCain hoping Obama will lose, and then Hillzilla, the candidate that takes a thumpin’ and keeps on hmpin’ can run in 2012.

I was gonna say, if McCain were anything like this angry shrew thinks he is, I’d be raising money and knocking on doors.

Since when have Democrats been “thinking” persons?

Obama has a very good chance of winning, and you can bet media will do their best to make it so. They won’t publish ANYTHING negative about obama, just praise and glory, while McCain will be tarred and feathered weekly.

“Breathe deep...and get over it: Clinton supporters should mourn, but how could they vote for McCain?”

How? Because McCain and Hillary! are closer on the issues than are Obama and Hillary!

We should probably agree to disagree on things McCain... An analysis of his judge votes, his close votes, and his comments gives me a much different view than you... especially about the meaning of his promises.

Just think of it this way, everything he is doing lately is pandering to groups that would not want constructionist judges. I cannot believe that he would stick to his words on something that doesn’t play to his base.

I am CERTAIN Obama will appoint horrid Supreme Court Justices.

I am HOPEFUL McCain will appoint good ones.

That alone will get me volunteering and voting.

People say: Well, you can’t be sure what kind of justice McCain will appoint. True. But I can be sure what kind of justice Obama will appoint. Gag.
