San Francisco Chronicle columnist Mark Morford has perhaps the kookiest explanation for Barack Obama’s rise that I’ve yet seen.
No, it’s not merely his youthful vigor, or handsomeness, or even inspiring rhetoric. It is not fresh ideas or cool charisma or the fact that a black president will be historic and revolutionary in about a thousand different ways. It is something more. Even Bill Clinton, with all his effortless, winking charm, didn’t have what Obama has, which is a sort of powerful luminosity, a unique high-vibration integrity.
Dismiss it all you like, but I’ve heard from far too many enormously smart, wise, spiritually attuned people who’ve been intuitively blown away by Obama’s presence - not speeches, not policies, but sheer presence - to say it’s just a clever marketing ploy, a slick gambit carefully orchestrated by hotshot campaign organizers who, once Obama gets into office, will suddenly turn from perky optimists to vile soul-sucking lobbyist whores, with Obama as their suddenly evil, cackling overlord.
Here’s where it gets gooey. Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.
This strikes me as somewhat implausible. Then again, Lightworkers have their own website, where you can become a member for free (although training manuals are extra).
Through the miracle of Google, I see a discussion from February that points out that, “There is one candidate still left in this race who is an Earth Ally. His name is Barack Obama. Yes, thats right. Barack Obama is an Earth Ally. He is a light worker. He is a being of light. He is not conscious of this, but subconsciously he is. His speeches of change and hope are evidence of this. He is the candidate the Galactic Federation of Light would like to win.” It is also noted that “Obama is a Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) member. The CFR IS THE ILLUMINATI!”
Fascinating!
Interestingly, charges that Fred Thompson was a light worker were harmful to his campaign. Go figure.
I at first read it as lightweight (I suppose because that’s what I associate with him) and it made perfect sense to me.
Lenin and Stalin were lightworkers too, I’m sure.
I think my kooky sister may be a member....LOL
She is all into that stuff and is in love with Obama. Thinks he vibrates some kind of energy that this planet needs and all that jazz.

Obama has skillfully gamed the system to the point that he has made himself a member of the caste of the 100 Most Corrupt Americans Known to Exist.
Ergo, by default, Obama cannot be a lightworker. ;)
In 2001 he was suspended for his comments on a sexual relationship between a teenage male student and an older female teacher. In 2003 he was suspended again, this time without acknowledgement from management, for violating Chronicle guidelines by including a curse word in his email newsletter, The Morning Fix (see below), without express permission.
Since 2000, along with his writing career, Morford has also taught Vinyasa yoga classes in San Francisco, most recently at the Yoga Tree network of schools.
Yep. This is probably why he and Oprah are bestest buddies. They are both New Agers. Maybe Obama is a prototype of the antichrist?

FR writer Atomic Conspiracy has it right. A reading of just a couple of Morford’s columns will convince anyone with a brain that his bulb has been dim for quite a while.
This is why you are here. This is what it's all about. To reunite opposing yet deliciously co-dependent energies: yin/yang, Earth/sky, body/spirit, movement/stillness, jazz/rock. Where else can you find serenity amidst chaos, stillness amidst sweat, effortlessness deep inside hard work? Yoga hasn't been around for thousands of years for nothing. It's a little-known fact that Jesus practiced yoga–he just didn't tell anyone. How do you think he was able to walk on water?
Integrity? Where? When?
Lightworker? Lightworker. Lightweight is actually the word they were looking for.
Obama will definitely get the overwhelming percentage of the Kook vote.
Now I will tread into touchy territory. I am one who believes that there were metaphysical forces at work which brought Hitler and his Evil to power. I hope the same Dark Forces (am I allowed to say "dark"?) are not at work, not some Spiritus Mundi as W.B. Yeats diescribed in The Second Coming.
