Woman accused of setting gas price protest fires

DANVILLE, Calif. - A Danville woman faces arson charges after she allegedly set fires at two gas stations and a coffee house, saying she was protesting high gas prices.

The woman, 64, remained Thursday in a Contra Costa jail on $810,000 bail on suspicion of premeditated arson and burglary.

Police say the woman used a fireplace log and a lighter to set fires in the restrooms of an Arco station, a Chevron station and a Starbucks on Wednesday. No structural damage was reported at the locations.

Police later found the woman at a nearby fast food restaurant with eight fireplace logs with her. She told officers that she was behind the fires and said she woke up that morning wanting to do something about high gas prices.

Police say they don't know why she targeted the Starbucks.

Charges have not yet been filed, and it's not clear if the woman has a lawyer in the case

Methinks this is just starting. People are trashing and burning their homes in protest, too. Others may be just trying to get out of mortgage obligations that exceed the value of the house. You heard it here first . . .

One thing’s clear - she’s never had a fireplace.

Gas and coffee. I can understand the outrage over the price of a double decaf latte with soy and half a pack of Equal blended in. It's still more than a gallon of gas. But taking out your anger over gas prices at the local gas station is just plain misguided. The poor gas station owner is at the mercy of this gas/oil market too. Too, he's the only business in town who has to post his prices for all to see as their driving by. I'd like to see Charbucks be forced to adhere to those rules!-Wb

Education in the “dismal science” of economics is not too great in America. And the news media don’t help at all.

I wouldn’t be too sure that she is senile. More than likely she is just your ordinary moonbat, just a little more determined than most.

Probably the Starbucks fire was a protest against the rising price of coffee.

Isn’t it obvious? Starbucks costs more per gallon than gas.

Could be a dem, but Danville is pretty Republican don’t you know it is one of those two America’s John Edwards always talks about.
What she did is very wrong but in the area we live in the Bay Area lately the gas goes up 2 times in one day yesterday I left for work at 5AM it was $4.25 for cheap grade came home at 7 PM the same gas station same cheap grade went up to $4.39 today it is $4.33 the price has changed in less than 48 hours 3 times, so it can be driving you crazy.

No. Fire logs and wood-burning fireplaces. Most homes here have gas fireplaces, if they have one at all.
