By JUDITH KOHLER | Associated Press Writer 12:06 AM CDT, May 28, 2008 Article tools

DENVER - Climate change is increasing the risk of U.S. crop failures, depleting the nation's water resources and contributing to outbreaks of invasive species and insects, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a report released Tuesday.

Those and other problems for the U.S. livestock and forestry industries will persist for at least the next 25 years, said the report compiled by 38 scientists

Climate change is increasing the risk of U.S. crop failures, depleting the nation's water resources and contributing to outbreaks of invasive species and insects, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a report released Tuesday.

In other news, the US produced more than 13 billion bushels of corn last year, far more than the previous record of 11.8 billion bushels.

There are problems today, but I’m not as convinced that they are global warming problems any more than they are population based problems.

Water shortages are coming, but we have so much more demand for water today.

We could have looked ahead and devised ways to supply more water, but our leaders these days are more worried about where funding for the next liberal program will come from, than where our next drink will.

Nuclear power plants and desalinization could help out significantly, but we’re twiddling our thumgs until a crisis comes along. Our leaders are failing us, and don’t honestly show much care if we know it or not.

That does not bode well.

I’ve noticed my tennis shoes don’t last as long as they used to because of climate change.

The USDA is pushing the climate change stuff big time. So are the agencies under it. At one place in the Forest Service, they all but made mandatory the watching of one of three films on climate change: An Inconvenient Truth, 6 Degrees Could Change the Earth (?), and A Global Warning. This was on taxpayer time. With discussions to follow.

depleting the nation's water resources...

Then build more dams instead of tearing them down.

contributing to outbreaks of invasive species and insects...

Tighten up customs inspections on imported fruit and produce and people.

Problem solved.

As with the polar bears, more proof that there are left-wing bureaucrats filling the Bush Administration.

The USDA needs more money to adjust this report to reflect the latest science that we will be in a cooling period till 2013 and possibly a century.

The government propaganda machines keep on spreading this pap, as they see the next tax & control utopia within their reach.

The public is too dumbed down to offer any resistance, as they were with the second hand smoke B/S, the War on Drugs, political correctness, the make believe two party system, judicial legislation from the bench, the eviromental malady, the ozone hole, the polar bear demise, etc. etc.

The heat came on this morning in San diego. That blower started up about 2 AM - woke all of us up.

And one of the fish tacos from Rubios got soggy, and that's after a 25% price increase!

There is climate change going on for sure. 30 years ago we could count on 15 May being the earliest date for setting out plants since the danger of frost would be past. Well, we have frost in the garden this morning.
