Because California, and Hollywood in particular, have been the punch line for so many jokes over the years, I suspect that people who dont live out here assume we cant possibly be that wacky. They dont know the half of it.
In order for you to better understand what conservatives in this neck of the woods have to deal with, Ill relate a few typical incidents. The first took place about 10 years ago. My wife and I were invited to a dinner party by the widow of a screenwriter whod been my longtime tennis partner. We were one of six couples. Which meant that, counting the hostess, there were 13 of us sitting around after dinner. I recall thinking at the time that this is how superstitions come to be perpetuated. [more @ ExileStreet]

I have had a few experiences like his too.
There is no reasonable discussion with leftists today.
Burt,
Don’t come to any big city in the Midwest, the la-de-da crowd is in lockstep with the moron Gene you cited. The North Shore suburbs of Chicago used to be reliably conservative but are now enamored of Oprah and Obama and some former clown from GE named Dan Seals. Sad.
It just isn’t fair at all....liberals are really just too easy to fire up!
Maybe that chunk of CA would drift up alongside North Korea where the Hollyweird bunch and the bay area deviants would feel right at home hobnobbing with Little Kim and his gang.
epow,
“You’re George Bush!!!”
Bump to read Burt later
Q: Why is living in California like living in a bowl of granola?
A:because what isn’t nut’s and fruit’s is flakes.
That is because they cannot suffer anyone to debate them. They debate a a foundation of emotion and the debater must needs be based on a foundation of logic. A debate cannot be based on emotion. Game set match goes to the challenger of the liberal. with a score of 1 to 0.
Liberal Hollywood culture is exactly why the Muslims hate and attack us as the “Great Satan.” That plus our sending such luminaries as Planned Parenthood worldwide, partially funded by out tax money, to preach abortion and freedom to practice promiscous sex, including homosexual sex. Think not? Read “The Enemy at Home” by D’Sousa for an accurate look at US liberal cultural values.
It’s important to remember that liberals are both intellectually and emotionally fragile. They respond with anger to conservatives because they have no legitimate arguments to make.
Importantly, it doesn’t matter *how* you try to argue with them. They are stuck. Unless you are in lock step with their opinions, and can play a “more liberal than thou” game with them, they are paralyzed.
Conservatives will try any number of methods to discuss topics in disagreement with liberals. They will try even feigning neutrality, just as an icebreaker. But the result is the same.
Right now, look at this in their candidate. Obama knows that his associations are damnable, that even his wife is a tactless racist, and that his entire campaign is based in empty homilies, platitudes, and yes, hate.
He cannot defend any of it. So all he can do is order the press and the GOP to “Lay off my wife!”, pretend that any argument against his *policies* are racist, and go back to trying to be as vacuous as possible.
He is not just an empty suit. He is a heavily stained and soiled empty suit.
As such, he is truly representative of a liberal Democrat.
I have observed the liberal hate as well. I have almost convinced myself from numerous encounters that in the eternal struggle between good and evil, they sold out to evil.
This pliant mass of humanity resembles no other group as much as the proletariat of Orwell's 1984. Rereading that masterpiece is more horrifying for its accuracy on today's political scenario than for the plight of its protagonist.
LOL! If I annoyed a liberal, would he foam at the mouth, point at me, and yell, "You're Ann Coulter!"?
If a writer living in California can explain why we are in Iraq in simple easy to understand terms why can’t our Republican congress members?
Fitting, in-kind retort: "You're probably right. Neither do I. All the 'a--holes' I know are liberals!"
I’ve experienced the wrath of a Executive Producer on a show I was working on during the 2000 elections. She was a Marxist black woman who detested all things conservative and had the most disgusting pictures of W. on her door. She flipped when she learned I was a Republican and gave me sh*t whenever she could. I finally told her to cut it out (knowing I could be fired right then) but she stopped and actually became a lot nicer to me. I ended up really liking her, but not her politics. The woman I was working with when Arnold won Governor, started yelling at the top of her voice when he won. She went berserk. And I wonder why I miss LA and my work so much!!!
I’ve found that, if you want to see their heads explode, when they assert any position, ask them
“on what data do you base that opinion”?
They really are fragile, aren’t they? I notice that when I argue, even gently, their hands start to shake.
Every liberal is an angry, violent little Heinrich Himmler just waiting for the power to follow in his footsteps.
