Former U.S. senator Hart says McCain will divide Republicans

LINCOLN, Neb. — Former Colorado senator and two-time presidential candidate Gary Hart told Nebraska Democrats that Barack Obama will heal the national party, while John McCain's nomination may cause a rift among Republicans.

"There's a real struggle for the soul of the Republican Party under way," Hart said Saturday before the state Democratic Party's annual Morrison-Exon Day Dinner. About 450 people attended the party's largest fundraising event.

Hart, 71, sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988, and was a U.S. senator from 1975 to 1987.

Hart said the Republican Party is going to find its ties to religious conservatives, neoconservative foreign policy and libertarian taxpayers at odds with its traditional politics — a balanced budget, caution in foreign policy and less government interference in private lives.

"Sooner or later," he said, "the very, very deep division of the Republican Party is going to come out."

He said the result will be fewer Republicans voting in November and fewer supporting their party's candidate.

Hart, who was has endorsed Obama, also said the Illinois senator will get the Democratic nomination over Hillary Rodham Clinton — and that will be good for the U.S.

"What Hillary Clinton offers is a return to the '90s, while Obama would take us into the 21st century," he said, adding that it's a generational contest with few policy differences between candidates.

"I believe we do need a generational change with a fresh new leader with new supporters offering revolutionary change," he said.

I am going to vote for Barak Hussein Obama, Hart is so wise.

Yup. He's the guy who knows where the beef is (and where the salami goes). He's quite a guy.

...a balanced budget, caution in foreign policy and less government interference in private lives.

The GOP buffoons in congress are too wed to pork. Cautious foreign policy is foolish considering the lessons of history. Neville Chamberlain's caution and our own complacency pre-9/11 have shown that caution only gives your enemy more time to smack you. If the jackasses like that guy from Georgia who wants to ban Playboy from military bases would stfu, we wouldn't look like a bunch of prudes.

Gary Hart is still as mentally deranged today as he was that time he dared the "newsies" to follow him (to a boat where he was playing peek a boo or something with a floozy).

Sometimes these guys just don't get better!~

It’s a free country: You are certainly welcome to go into the sanctity of the voting booth and vote third party or write-in Daffy Duck or even Ron Paul, or not vote at all. But please don’t come crying to me a year from now because of your taxes going up to pay for slavery reparations, Muslim indoctrination in your kid’s schools, and the martial law that President Obama declared after the gun confiscation riots.

Ahhh, you remembered the name! Gary Hartpence indeed. Definitely a warning sign when someone changes their name. I wasn't sure if he was still alive. He's definitely politically dead.

She was perhaps the most genuinely attractive of all the various political scandal bimbos.

She still looks pretty good.

LOL! Guy, you are going batty.
Hint: That isn’t going to get +1 vote for McCain.

Hyperbole tends to damage credibility.

We survived Clinton, (Conservatism actually thrived) we will survive Obama (more likely McCain IMO)

Amen! I want the second amendment enforced, not ignored. Freedom of the press to be the right not to be lied to. Lefties to take advantage of their right to vote with their feet and go to Zimbabwe where they will be at home with all they want this country to be.

I know I am not thrilled about McPain. I keep wondering when he'll reach across the isle to me on the conservative side.

As for money - no way - suck his wife dry. If Hitlery can borrow and use her own money, then McPain can suck his wife dry. He doesn't need our money. He'll get it soon enough with his ridiculous environMENTAL tax increases due to “global warming” - LOL!

Oh yes, Gary Hart, man of great judgment. We all know he is spot on with his conclusion!

President Bill Clinton was a moderate republican in comparison to Illinois Senator Barack Hussein Muhammad Obama, IMO. The man was raised as a Muslim in Indonesia and Hawaii, worked for the communist front group ACORN in Chicago, worked with and socialized with terrorists, especially Bill Ayers, an unrepentant domestic bomber & Weather Underground operative. I won't even go into the Trinity UCC subject. Do I need to go on? Are you seriously telling me that there is little or no difference between Obama and a war hero?!

There is little to no difference between Obama and BJ Clinton, which I think was the point.

LOL... didn’t the superdelegates (along with unfortunate monkeybusiness pictures) doom Hart’s campaign in 1984?

Superdelegates had a hand in putting "Landslide" Mondale in over Hart in '84. Monkeybusiness was in '88.

Actually, the NuRepublicans (all those ‘moderates, democrats’ etc) support McCain. It’s the CONSERVATIVES who have the problem with McCain’s liberal leanings.

*sigh*
