I heard an interview on the radio the other day which sort of clarified the situation there. They aren’t completely refusing aid. They are claiming they have enough human resources and will gladly accept supplies, they just don’t want the foreigners that are being sent along with the supplies. In the case of this article, this particular organization insisted on doing the distribution themselves and that was what got em into trouble. I am wondering what the Myanmar government is trying to hide or what it is they are trying to keep their own people from seeing or finding out.
Indeed. I knew it was bad in Burma after reading some books by the hero Aung San Suu Kyi but I didn’t realize it would be this bad. This is right up there with actions of North Korea.
They are SOCIALISTS and are already on record as having been worried about overpopulation.
This is the UN’s big chance to do what’s right. Take the Burmese dictatorship OUT.

This is horrific. Tens of thousands of people are going to die because their own government will not allow them to be helped. It’s barbaric.

No, time to drop food and guns to the people.
No way, if even a rumor started circulating that China was recommending that they keep help away it would be devastating to the Olympics. China will publicly pressure them to do the humanitarian thing and let them give aid, just watch.
Not quite as bad. I have an internet friend in Yangon who says things that would get him shut down and killed in NK. Of course the guy in NK could never get on line in the first place. He works for a company that is partnered with a Western company to import and sell electronics. He vacations in Indonesia and goes abroad on business trips to Australia and SEA. He is not a honcho in the company, just a secretary. He does not directly say bad things about the rulers but implies stuff pretty easy to understand.

Tibet didn’t hurt the Olympics. Nothing will help the Olympics.Western governments have to prove their tolerance and multiculturalism. And it would be only rumors. There are no leaks between Red China and Burma that China doesn’t want to be leaked.
