Fluoride Damages Teeth

Fluoride exposure is rising and causing children’s tooth imperfections, ranging from white spots to brownish discolorations and pitting (fluorosis), dentist Elivir Dincer reports in the New York State Dental Journal. (1)

“Such changes in the tooth’s appearance can affect the child’s self-esteem which makes early prevention that much more critical,” writes Dincer.

Children, aged 2 to 7 years, can swallow about one-quarter milligram of fluoride with every brushing because their swallowing reflexes are not fully developed, reports Dincer.

“Children from the age of 6-months to 3-years should not have more than one-quarter milligram of fluoride per day. Brushing the teeth of a 2-year-old twice a day will expose the child to about one-half milligram, exceeding the allowable [daily] limits” [from toothpaste alone], writes Dincer.

Intentionally swallowing the toothpaste which is likely, given the pleasant flavor of children’s toothpaste, increases children’s fluorosis risk, Dincer reports.

Fluoridated water, supplements, mouth rinses and/or foods add to daily fluoride intake.

Up to 48% of children have fluorosis, with 4% moderate/severe (yellow/brown teeth), reports the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (2). Fluoride over-exposure at ages 22- to 25-months can discolor the permanent two front teeth while they form under the gums.

Two-thirds of US water suppliers add fluoride chemicals to reduce tooth decay. This fluoridated water is used to make many foods and beverages. (3) “Water and processed beverages (e.g., soft drinks and fruit juices) can provide approximately 75% of a person's fluoride intake,” according to the CDC. (4)

Mixing infant formula with fluoridated water (5), fluoride supplements (6) and foods with naturally higher fluoride levels, such as tea and ocean fish, independently increase risk of dental fluorosis. Fluoride-containing pesticide residues remain on various foods. Fluoride is also inhaled via ocean and shower mist and is in some medicines.

The adequate intake of fluoride from ALL sources to avoid moderate fluorosis (not mild white spots) according to the National Academies of Science (9) is

-- 0.01 mg/day for 0 to 6-month-olds

-- 0.5 mg/day for 7 through 12 months

-- 0.7 mg/day for 1 to 3-year-olds

Why isn't this information reaching the public?

In 2000, dental researcher AK Mascarenhas wrote, “There is substantial evidence that fluoridated water, fluoride supplements, infant formulas, and fluoride toothpastes are risk factors for fluorosis,” alone and together in “Risk factors for Dental Fluorosis: A review of the recent literature,” in Pediatric Dentistry, 4/22/2000.

“It’s obvious that fluoridation is dosing our children with uncontrollable and undesirable amounts of fluoride,” says attorney Paul Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. “Besides affecting teeth, fluoride can be hazardous to your general health,” he says. "Since fluoride is neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth and no child is, or ever was, fluoride deficient, it's time we stop adding unnecessary and costly fluoride chemicals into water supplies," says Beeber.

Over 1600 professionals joined Environmental Protection Agency scientists in calling for an end to fluoridation. "Do your teeth go really bad if you use no flouride at all?"

I haven't been using floridated toothpaste (or floridated anything) for 10 years and my teeth are fine, better than average. Daily water brushing and mouthwash are all that's need imo.

Aw come on.
We were way overdue.
FR needs a Fluoride kookburger thread at least once a year.
It should be close to time for a DDT kookburger thread too.

Actually fluoridation is the ADDITION of fluoride into drinking water. However, naturally fluoridated water supplies can cause just as much damage and municipalities have to decide whether the costs warrant effective removal of excess fluoride. In India, where water fluoride levels are very high, residents are crippled with skeletal fluorosis.

By the way the fluoride that’s added to drinking water is silicofluoride - an impure waste product of phosphate fertilizer manufacturing that’s allowed to contain trace amounts of lead, arsenic, mercury and other toxins.

NSF International regulates water additives. Here’s their fact sheet on fluoride

All the same, teeth mottled by fluoride are still much more resistant to cavities. This is how the protective effect was initially discovered. Certain regions of the country with naturally-occurring high levels of fluoride as seen in mottled teeth had a significantly lower incidence of dental caries.

Blacks have the highest rates of fluorosis AND the highest rates of tooth decay.

Also, children with fluorosis are more
likely to have bone damage, according to a study published in thejournal “Fluoride.”

This is how it should be. People who believe their children need fluoride can purchase them with a doctor’s prescription.
based on need, health, drug interactions’s etc.

Just know that the American Dental Association says that children six and younger are a great risk of fluorosis from supplements.

However, putting fluoride chemicals into everyone’s drinking water and allowing it to flow unregulated into our food and beverage supply is just plain stupid.

Now the ADA, Centers for Disease Control and the Academy of General Dentistry advises that fluoridated water NOT be mixed with infant formula

"Too Much Fluoride Can Damage Teeth" should be the title. People not drawn in by the sensationalism of the title may be left with an inaccurate impression.

Actually, dentists tell us to brush twice a day preferably and after each meal ideally. The article this information is based on is telling us that many kids are getting too much fluoride simply from brushing twice a day and risk dental fluorosis from that, alone.

Now when you add on all the fluoride that’s in our water and food supply and that which is in air pollution, you’ll see how our children are being fluoride overdosed.

On top of that, children who live in non-fluoridated communities are often prescribed fluoride supplements.

Additionally, when their first tooth erupts, there’s a big push to put fluoride varnish on babies teeth, which contain a hugely toxic 26,000 parts per million fluoride (toothpaste contains 1,000 ppm; water 1 ppm)

Fluoride gets involuntarily swallowed and absorbed into the bloodstream via the mouth membranes.

The question is how much is too much and how to we tally it every day when fluoride is not listed on foods and beverages that contain fluoride naturally (tea, ocean fish) and that contain fluoride due to pesticide residues (grape juice, raisens) and that contain fluoride from bone dust (children’s chicken baby food) and that contain fluoride from the water supply used (coke, pepsi, orange juice)

Some years ago, when I was pregnant for the first time, I went to the store and bought all the 'baby' things I thought I would need, including baby toothpaste. Baby toothpaste is different from child or adult toothpaste, in that it does not contain floride.

I asked my dentist why do I need this and he replied that while it is a good idea to brush a baby's new teeth, it is hard to get them to spit afterwards, so they tend to swallow the toothpaste. All people, not just babies, he said, should rinse and spit out the toothpaste so they don't swallow the floride.

If true, why are we putting this in tap water that we drink and cook and swallow?

My adult daughter started using a mix of baking soda, salt and lemon juice, and her teeth are finally starting to look white.

Fluoridated water is disgusting, and government has no business polluting our water with it. It also reduces intelligence and our natural level of aggression. I guess that makes us easier to control

The mass medication of America.

Man-made fluoride is used to sedate high strung race horses for transporting. What a clever and insidious way to dope Americans.

It amazes me, especially in this age of the Internet and easy access to information, that the sheeple still use fluoridated toothpaste - and I challenge you to find any toothpaste in your local super market that is NOT fluoridated.

Then I challenge you to read the WARNING on those tubes...that warns not to let children use more than a pea-size amount when brushing and if they swallow any to IMMEDIATELY call poison control. (And then they also allow nummy flavors like 'bubblegum' )[one of my handsome grandson's teeth are forever mottled by fluoride. ]-

I charge ANY parent that allows their children to use fluoridated toothpaste with utter ignorance and endangerment.

so sue me...

But what can you expect from a public who spends billions a year on buying, paying for, bottled water that is nothing more than tap water from cities like LA, Denver and Jacksonville which, in turn, is recycled sewer water.

It's hard to maintain a level of hope...

Fluoride: the opiate foisted on the masses...

Ingesting too much fluoride while the teeth are forming is the issue.

Once the teeth have erupted brushing with fluoride can not cause fluorosis --- unless the child swallows the toothpaste while other teeth are still forming. Absorption of fluoride through oral mucosal membranes must be extremely minimal mechanism given the great quantity of fluoride-containing toothpastes marketed and the extremely low incidence of dental fluorosis.

Artificially fluoridating municipal water supplies to 1 part per million is far below the concentration that will induce fluorosis. The decay prevention benefit accrues almost exclusively to the child population whose teeth are forming but is of negligible benefit to the adult.

I got all-natural paste with flouride added.

if it has fluoride - it ain't "all-natural" -

the fluoride used is MAN-made, a toxic waste product of the aluminum industry...

Research the difference between man-made and natural fluoride.

And while you're at it, read the WARNING on your toothpaste tube.

I use tooth powders and or baking soda with a bit of salt. And I drink only my sweet well water or spring water - NOT bottled water from any other source.

If it isn't labeled with the source as spring water, you are drinking tap water from cities like LA, Denver and Jacksonville = which is, in turn, recycled sewer water.

Wake up, Sheeple

(don't take my word for it. You have GOOGLE at your fingertips)
