Report: Bob Barr Weighing Presidential Run
Foxnews.com ^ | 1 April 2008

Posted on 03/31/2008 10:12:43 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

Former Republican Georgia Rep. Bob Barr is considering a run for president on the Libertarian Party ticket, according to FITNews.

Barr, who joined the Libertarian Party after leaving Congress in 2003, is looking to attract conservatives who are unhappy with the choice of John McCain as the expected Republican presidential nominee. McCain and Barr are at odds primarily over the role of U.S troops in Iraq, although both agree that tough interrogation methods should not be permitted.

FITNews wrote that Barr will receive the endorsement of Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul, a GOP presidential candidate who is still technically in the race but has not suggested he would throw his support to McCain. McCain and Paul, who ran on the Libertarian Party presidential ticket in 1988, also are at odds primarily over the role of U.S. troops in Iraq.

Barr, who represented Georgia’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House from 1995-2003 and served as a House manager during impeachment proceedings against former President Bill Clinton, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week that he identifies closely with Paul’s outlook.

I’ve always wondered at what point Hillary would unveil her 2008 version of Perot. Barr fits the profile perfectly.

If it’s coincidence, there’s no way to tell.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, I can think of NO conservatives with the name and credentials to be able to win the election this November. I wish that weren’t true because this seems to me a great opportunity, quite similar to the 1970 Senatorial election in NYState, when James Buckley ran on the Conservative ticket and beat a liberal democrat and a liberal republican. He had good credentials, and great name recognition, courtesy of his brother. (And, of course, we shouldn’t minimize the fact and enormous advantage that he had me working for him.)

Alas, nobody I can think of will fill the bill this year and actually have a chance of winning - the best any of those I can think of would do would simply assure a walk in the park for the socialist Demodog candidate.

Neither of the men have changed - only the political atmosphere.

Exactly.

Ross Perot for VP!

I thought he was on the short list for every RAT candidate! After all they have so much in common.

I should have included a sarcasm tag...

My point was, Barr has just introduced what could, give the election to the Marxists.

He’s an idiot.

Another Ross Perot who gathered 19% of the vote and catapulted Bill Clinton with his 41% vote share into the White House

Ah, some more of that "Ross Perot got Clinton into the White House" garbage. http://www.leinsdorf.com/perot.htm

Sorry about that. The sarcasm was self evident, I just failed to see it, being a bit "under the weather" just now. I used to admire Barr, but this stunt screams of an attention getting mindset reminiscent of a third grader.

Or name Sam Nunn as his VP. The Barr/Nunn ticket would be unstoppable! ?

Not you father’s libertarian party. 2008 gets weirder and weirder.

Arrgh....while his ally Dick Armey was always my theoretical "first choice" for the Presidency, the eventual Dim nominee will be way too foul to risk.

George Soros, Progressive Ins. Co.
Progressive belongs to Peter Lewis, not George Soros. The reality is all McCain would have to do is propose legalizing pot and Lewis would back him big.
