A hard drive recovered from the computer of a killed Colombian guerrilla has offered more insights into the opposition of House Democrats to the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.
A military strike three weeks ago killed Raúl Reyes, No. 2 in command of the FARC, Colombia's most notorious terrorist group. The Reyes hard drive reveals an ardent effort to do business directly with the FARC by Congressman James McGovern (D., Mass.), a leading opponent of the free-trade deal. Mr. McGovern has been working with an American go-between, who has been offering the rebels help in undermining Colombia's elected and popular government.
Mr. McGovern's press office says the Congressman is merely working at the behest of families whose relatives are held as FARC kidnap hostages. However, his go-between's letters reveal more than routine intervention.

from article:
“We think the documents reveal something else entirely: Some Democrats oppose the Colombia trade deal because they sympathize more with FARC’s terrorists than with a U.S. antiterror ally.”
We’re at wor with terror organizations worldwide. FARC is a terrorist organization. Congressman McGovern has been caught aiding them. He should be arrested and tried for treason. Without delay. But he won’t be. The administration is far too timid to deal with our domestic enemies as they should. Now if McGovern was a border guard it would be Katie bar the door!
This will never reach the light of day because:
1. This is old news.
2. Democrats never commit treason.
3. Everyone knows this was a setup, e.g. William Jefferson
4. It's Bush's fault.
Remind me again why we don’t prosecute these people.

I don’t know why either.
I’m still waiting for Sandy Berger to go to trial.
I think we need a Council of Independent Outsiders to investiate and try these cases.
It’s like the Belt Way continue to protect their “own” rather than serve those who elected them!
—yep—
Only one word describes these people. Traitor!
3 weeks does not make old news
this needs to be pursued
Theory: Columbia’s current government stands in the way of running a relatively short oil pipeline from Venezuala to China-bound oil supertankers, which otherwise need to travel many thousands of miles around South America to get there (the boats being too big for the Panama Canal). Do the math.
Sad, but Americans have their heads too far up their rear ends to know the significance of this article.
Most Americans don’t know what the FARC are, and can’t even find Columbia on a map.
That’s why traitors can get away with anything.
Isn’t Massachusetts wonderful? This brings to mind the time that Sen. Kenneddy sent buddy Sen Tunney of
California to the Soviet Union to meet with Soviet officials in the Kremlin. The upshot of that meeting was to inform the Soviets not to worry, Teddy had Reagan well in hand.
If the government of Columbia took this congressman out, I’d stand up and cheer.
Because "we" are not in control.
“Columbia” is the university in New York...
“Colombia” is the country in South America.
Living in Miami, this becomes second nature :)
I thought that only the Senators from that state were Communist.
