Gov. Bill Richardson told Barack Obama he would endorse him 10 days ago, but the two high-powered Democrats kept it a secret until Friday because of Richardson's long-planned Caribbean vacation with his wife.
The governor, in an interview with the Journal late Friday, said he called Obama on Monday and told the Democratic presidential front-runner that he would, in fact, give him the endorsement he had been doggedly pursuing for weeks.
Obama suggested they make the announcement on Wednesday, but that would have forced Richardson and his wife, Barbara, to cut their vacation two days short.
The governor's wife, who dutifully supported him through a long presidential campaign that kept him on the road for weeks at a time last year, wasn't having it. "She put her foot down," Richardson said with a laugh ...
Richardson ... said he dreaded telling Hillary Clinton about his decision. But it needed to be done, and Richardson finally connected with Obama's rival by phone at about 9 p.m. Thursday after she finished a campaign rally.
"It wasn't one of our better conversations," Richardson said. "We talked for a good three minutes; it was a candid conversation. It got a little tense but we ended up in good terms.
"I told her I had utmost respect for her and my endorsement had to do more with party unity and the fact that I believe Obama is something special, something very good for the American political system," Richardson said.
~~snip~~
The New Mexico governor said he did not ask for, nor did he receive any commitments, about a plum job in an Obama presidential administration. "Nothing came up it didn't even enter into the discussion at all," Richardson said.

The writer can't count. Monday to Friday is not ten days; neither is Monday to Sunday (the day of article publication).
New Mexico PING!
I love NM. Richardson is an embarrassment to the state. On the other hand, without the Clintons he wouldn’t be anybody, would he?

Wonder what they were????
Obama is something special? How would you know from his campaign?
Well, that’s a shocker.
No; Really!
Oh, not the political stuff.
The shocker is that King Bill would actually be willing to go on vacation.... ANYWHERE ......(other than some political photo op where it was necessary)..... with his ‘wife of convenience’.
It's a stunningly beautiful state, and wifey and I could probably find a place to retire there, but that state's quirky political leanings have always pretty much ruled it out.
Dollar Bill pimped himself to the highest bidder. Next question...
I don't believe him for one minute. Had he admitted the truth that Obama did offer him something that would require him to leave NM, I would probably vote for Obama just to get rid of him. LOL He's such a pig!
Yes, but if he thinks Obama is something special, something very good, is he not implying that Hillary is neither of those things? I think it does, and, by golly, I agree with him.
He not only is an enemy of liberty, he is an enemy to the people who made him what he is.
I would call him a whore, but that would insult whores everywhere.
What a weasel — Richardson is clearly out for Richardson himself. The people of NM went for Hillary, and by Barak’s own position, the superdelegates should vote with their people . Bill spit on the people of NM because clearly Senator Obama offered him more than BillandHill did.
Richardson isn’t your “typical white person” so he figures he has a better change with Obama than he does with Hill.
He showed he doesn’t care about the people of his own state who voted for Hill and he spit on them just like he spit on HillandBill.
I’m no Hill fan, but Richardson showed he has not principles with his decision to go for the obamasiah. For once, I’ll agree with the snake — Richardson is scum.
He is a nobama/nobody.
He reminds me of the guy from SNL.
I may be soaking wet, but......IMHO.......
Bill put out feelers to the Clintstone machine as to the possibility of his, Richardson’s, being picked for Vice-Pres. When the message came back in the negatory, he jumped for Obama.
Richardson says that no plum jobs were discussed with Obama; but he knew he’d already hit a dry well with the Clintons, so what shot did he have left?
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and former President Bill Clinton watch the Super Bowl at the Governor's Mansion in Santa Fe, N.M., on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008.
My Mom’s family has lived there since the beginning of the 1900s (Dexter and later Roswell). We lived there several times when I was growing up and I graduated from High School in Ruidoso, where I met my husband. We would love to retire there (Cloudcroft perhaps) but I agree, the political scene is distressing. My Aunt was a state Rep until she died a few years ago and we always had interesting conversations. She was a Republican, of course.

You're too kind. ;o) I won't tell you what he reminds me of because I'm a lady. LOL
I hadn’t noticed his beard/mustache until I saw him on TV this morning (altho I see it in the photo above, guess I had missed it there). It made him look sinister. Like a sinister pillsbury doughboy.
