Trying to hang on, Detroit's mayor says the issue is not his sex scandal, but racism.
Newsweek Web Exclusive ^ | Mar 13, 2008 | Keith Naughton

You might think the resignation of New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer would put more pressure on Detroit's embattled mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, to do the same. But Kilpatrick, seven weeks into his own text sex scandal, shows no signs of giving up the fight. In fact, with a prosecutor contemplating perjury charges and his city council in revolt, Kilpatrick has chosen the nuclear option in this deeply divided city. At the end of an otherwise routine state-of-the-city speech Tuesday night, Kilpatrick went off on a racially explosive tirade against his critics and the media.

I reckon it’s okay to lie under oath if you’re black...or named Clinton.

I forget who said that “patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel” but this obviously needs to be updated.

He’s digging a deeper hole here.
The video of the council president calling him out after the state of the city address was probably the final nail in the coffin.

Well, here comes Obama’s “Sister Souljah” moment: Tell Kwame to step down, Obama! Naahh... Obama’s not anti-corruption.

Census data show this is the most racially divided urban center in America, with 81 percent of the city black and a roughly equal percentage of the surrounding suburbs white.

The folks north of 8 mile are now comprised of all the blacks who have fled Detroit over the years and could care less about Detroit now that they are out of it.

As stated in the article, the 1500 people in attendance for his speech were all invitees and supporters of Kwami the Salami and that's why all you heard were cheers during his speech.

He is corrupt to the core and will unlikely resign until he is dragged from his office in handcuffs.......

The current mayor has run what’s left of Detroit into the ground. Ten years ago my dad died and my mom was left in our family home on the far eastside (8 mile/Kelly).

She was mugged. I went to the police. They told me she could not be protected; and to move her out. I did. Now our old neighborhood is full of abandoned, boarded up houses.

It’s become a third world city.

Hate to tell Kwame this, but most of those wanting his resignation are black. What sort of racism is that? Moral?

(8 mile/Kelly).

Were you close to State Fair? A friend of mine lived on State Fair about a block or two from Kelly and we both went to Denby......

“I believe I’m on an assignment from God,” he told local radio station WMXD.

Race card, political card, and the God card.

I left Detroit in the mid-70s. Best decision of my life. Grew up near Warren/Chalmers intersection. It breaks my heart to read these stories.

Detroit illustrates that civilizations do not always progress forward, but like 14th century Europe, can regress into semi-anarchy.

Today Kwame claimed that Wall Street loved him. Anyone in the know know his true status in their eyes? He certainly looks like a financial liability to me!
