I left Detroit in the mid-70s. Best decision of my life. Grew up near Warren/Chalmers intersection. It breaks my heart to read these stories.

Detroit illustrates that civilizations do not always progress forward, but like 14th century Europe, can regress into semi-anarchy.

My folks lived on 3 Mile Dr. between outer drive and Warren. I worked at The Budd Company on Conner & Charlevoix and lived briefly on Maryland in about 1974

Especially disheartening when it is done in the name of “progress”. Like most of the problems besetting our society, urban decay was an inevitable result of the Great Society. 60’s be damned.
