While Jim Cramer is known for wearing his heart on his sleeve, the host of CNBC's "Mad Money" normally lets his emotions show over matters financial. In August, for example, he went ballistic at Ben Bernanke, pleading with the Fed chairman to lower interest rates in the face of widespread home foreclosures.
But this morning, Cramer got verklempt not over the discount rate but at the falling fortunes of his friend Eliot Spitzer. Cramer went to Harvard Law with the embattled governor and his wife Silda, and has been a Spitzer defender in the face of criticism by many of the high-and-mighty Sheriff of Wall Street.
Cramer appeared on this morning's Today to discuss with Meredith Vieira yesterday's dramatic Fed move. But at the end of the interview, Vieira raised the Spitzer situation, and that sent Cramer to the verge of tears. The transcript below doesn't do justice to just how emotional Cramer became, so readers might want to view the video.

Cramer gets verklempt ping to Today show list.
Cramer is ALWAYS on the verge of tears.
He has mental illness. And I do not say this in jest.
I wonder if Cramer thinks Spitzer ever used his name.
Maybe Jim Cramer is Client Number 8 at the Emperor’s Club?
Kramer's ethics have long been debatable and now his emotional stability is questionable. Think Spitzer would choke up if Kramer had been caught with a hooker? Heck, no...he'd be looking for a way to prosecute his friend and get another couple of minutes in the spotlight.
If Kramer was such a loyal friend, he should be helping Silda move out!
On the one hand he's a defender of the Sheriff of Wall Street and on the other he's been taped giving intructions how to short a stock into oblivion for profit. It's legal but highly, highly unethical.
They deserve each other. Birds of a feather...
Jeffery Toobin went to school with him too it seems. They were talking about it last night, but at least he said Dershowitz was full of crap trying to spin it as nothing.
I heard a guy on Stern this morning who was put away by Spitzer for 2 1/2 years for running an escort service. He wasn’t crying.
Add Barack Hussein Obama and his wife to that roll too.... Parents, think about it before spending all that money for a Harvard degree.
What a complete idiot!
So Boo-yah.
Guess what... This time it's NOT about the sex--it's about breaking the law. It's not a matter of a tryst, even with a powerless subordinate in a federal workplace during working hours (ala Monica). It's one thing to say it's just sex. How can an attorney, a member of the bar, basically say Spitzer's actions were above the law? It's the law that's wrong this time because, as we all know with Democrats, Eliot was above the law. They're smarter, better educated, and the rules shouldn't apply to them. Alan Dershowitz has argued himself into a corner so many times I think he cannot separate white from black.
And Harvard is turning out criminals and immoral people on a yearly basis. A smart competitive university would put together a slick public relations ad in which they would show 1)Spitzer 2)Michelle Obama 3) Katrina Vandenheuval 4) Cramer and all the other people who have graduated from that cesspool of a law school. Run their anti-american quotes and their liberal poisonous rants. Then at the end ask: Harvard—is this what you want for your children and/or America??
Right before Cramer almost started crying, he told Meredith that the Spitzer situation didn’t affect him. He was so distraught that he could barely talk.
Yeah, and the way Michelle complains about everything, you’d think that she had been denied opportunity. Princeton, Harvard Law, nice clothes, healthy kids, golden employment opportunities, and she comes out whining that she’s never been proud before and that Americans are mean? She’s the mean one. *itch, *itch, *itch....Get the best of everything (because she’s soooo deserving) and complain about it all the way to the bank!
Cramer’s wife really did keep his hedge fund running if this is an example of a man who could handle billions of dollars when his bet went against the market.
Jim is clearly miserable about this mess- and I can’t help but wonder once again- about the utterly different worlds libs inhabit.
