If the USAF had announced the winner two months ago, would McCain have gotten the nomination?
To: Weird Tolkienish Figure
This is not good news for McCain, and little things add up.
Especially when they are real concrete actions rather than words or stances.

I’m not supporting the guy but one senator has this much power? Don’t they still have to vote on stuff ?
To: Weird Tolkienish Figure
Wow! Didn’t see that coming... /s
This klown has to be the most politically tone-deaf politician since....well since the rest of the current crop of presidential contenders. At a point where the “half an once of common sense” guy says something neutral or so generic as to be meaningless, McLame and his “Stupid-Talk Express” insists on putting his foot in it (right up to the knee).
So what does that say about the folks who’ll vote for him?

Boeing hosed the deal themselves.

Why should my wages be taxed just to subsidize some guy because he happens to work at Boeing?

Being overlooked in this democrat sponsored "scandal" is this:
Boeing executive improperly recruited an Air Force official ...Darleen Druyun, and a top Boeing executive both served time in prison, and the scandal led to the departure of Boeing's chief executive and several top Air Force officials.
If the deal had gone through, Pelosi would charge that McCain ignored previous illegal activities with Boeing.
I am not a McCain fan but this charge is pure Pelosi at work.

I might not understand the issues, but it appears to me that Boeing assumed that it would get the contract because it would create jobs. In all deference to the Washington job scene, I pray and hope that the Air Force chose the best contract based on competition. Providing jobs shouldn’t be the prime driver for rewarding contracts.

It was a competitive bid.
Boeing lost.
As another poster pointed out, N-G is going to create more jobs due to this contract than Boeing would have.
Note that every complainer in the article has a “D” after their name.

I think they should get over it and send McCain some money:

And another thing: why the f*** did McCain steer a defense contract to a FOREIGN COMPANY???

(AP) Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.,turns away after talking to reporters... Full Image "Having made sure that Iraq gets new schools, roads, bridges and dams that we deny America, now we are making sure that France gets the jobs that Americans used to have," said Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill. "We are sending the jobs overseas, all because John McCain demanded it." Rep. Rahm Emanuel...hmmmmmm...where have we heard that name before now???? /s

McCain said he is keeping an open mind on the contract, but in the past he has boasted about his role in blocking an earlier version of the tanker deal that gave the contract to Boeing. The deal was killed in 2004 after a former Boeing executive improperly recruited an Air Force official while she was still overseeing contracts involving prospective Boeing deals. The former Air Force official, Darleen Druyun, and a top Boeing executive both served time in prison, and the scandal led to the departure of Boeing's chief executive and several top Air Force officials. This deal needed to be blocked. Ms. Druyun had negotiated Boeing jobs for herself, her daughter, and her future son-in-law. That's bribery.
Boeing is lucky they even had a chance to re-negotiate.

On Friday, Boeing officials were briefed on why the decision went against them. They are very busy this weekend deciding whether or not to protest the contract award. On Monday, Northrop Grumman officials will be briefed on why they won the contract.
It appears to me that the Pentagon went to great lengths to avoid improprieties in this process. The initial reports, showing that NG was rated better in 5 out of 6 categories, seems to show that NG gave the government a significantly better proposed design. Boeing may have a hard row to hoe if they try to protest the decision. In addition, if they protest and fail to get the award changed, the government has ways of making their life miserable in the future. The government folks have long memories...
Boeing's best approach to this may be to let sleeping dogs lie and to go after the B-52 replacement that is now being considered. They have plenty of experience building bombers.
