Party Chair Says Delegates Will Be Seated
DNC Strips State As Punishment For Early Primary

MIAMI -- Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurman, in an interview with Local 10 Political Reporter Michael Putney, predicts that the state's 210 delegates will be seated at the national Democratic Party convention next summer in Denver.
Last August, the Democratic National Committee voted to strip Florida of all its convention delegates as punishment for the state moving its presidential primary to Jan. 29. Republican leaders in the Legislature pushed for the change and Democrats, while warning of consequences, acquiesced. Only Rep. Jack Seiler, D-Wilton Manors, voted against the primary date change.
National party leaders also stripped Michigan of its convention delegates after the state moved its primary to Jan. 15.
Sen. Hillary Clinton won the Florida primary.
At a campaign rally in Davie on the night of her victory, Clinton said, "I promise that I will see to it that Florida delegates are seated at the convention and that Florida is in the victory column next November."
Obama has not commented directly on the delegate dilemma, but his campaign manager, David Plouffe, told reporters in a conference call earlier this week: "Now, when they believe it serves their political interests, they (the Clinton campaign) are trying to rewrite the rules."
Giving Clinton even her proportionate share of Florida delegates of 105 would put her in a tie with Obama. Obama would get 67 delegates if they were awarded proportionately.
Thurman said it's in the best interests of the candidates and the party to reach a compromise.
"I don't believe either Clinton or Obama believes that the party's nominee should be chosen without delegates from Florida or Michigan. They will have to come together at some point on an agreement," she said.

Change the rules AFTER the primary? I’ll bet if Obama or the Breck Girl had won, this would never have happened.
