Texas DOT never has explained that this is a conventional interstate that could bring jobs to towns all along the corridor.Texas DOT never has explained that this is a conventional interstate that could bring jobs to towns all along the corridor.

Because it isn't, and it won't. They aren't going to put an exit with a toll booth at every FM road in east Texas. They'll have interchanges at a few major highways - I-10 and 20, for example. But the purpose it to move trucks from Mexico to the Great Lakes and Canada, with access to the Port of Houston and a few other strategic locations.

There was a reference upthread to rural development - now those are a bunch of easy marks.

What is happening in our country today reminds me of a movie that came out about 15 years ago - I think it was titled “They Live”. Wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper was in it. The story was about aliens from out space who came down to earth disguised as humans. Piper found a pair of sunglasses that allowed him to see their true form. When he looked at them with his naked eyes, they looked like normal people. But when he put on the sunglasses the aliens looked like their true hideous selves.

Don’t you feel like you are putting on those glasses and seeing the aliens for the first time when we look at many of our leaders? I have that “Twilight Zone” feeling a lot of the time now as I look at people that I have voted for or have watched on c-span for years. They always looked respectable and credible to me. Now I look at many of these people and I see something else, something creepy and weird.

I think the liberal educational systems in the Western nations indoctrinate the future leaders with political correctness and the political system promotes the spineless weasels who kiss their way up to the top. The political system today discourages those with courage and integrity. All we see are spineless politically correct nothings.

Thanks for the ping, weegee.

This makes me laugh... They say they want to hear what we peons have to say. They nod their heads, make notes, and then they do exactly what they planned in the first place!

We’re all being ripped off. Every day. In every way. Government is NOT our friend.

TxDOT spokeswoman Karen Othon said, "Nothing's going to happen right now. Construction is not going to start. No right of way is going to be bought. Nothing is going to happen at this point. We're right now just hearing the public's comments on this project."

"The rest will happen in secret."

Texas DOT never has explained that this is a conventional interstate that could bring jobs to towns all along the corridor.

That is because the TTC is not a conventional road. It's a toll road, with limited access and egress points, that is supposed to bypass populated area's.

TTC is a scam of monumental proportions.

"there is no such highway being built"

That is not the issue.

The conspiracy theory says that a NAU is being built and these super duper highways are proof of that.

The reality that I-69 was announced in 1992. 13 years before SPP. The second reality is that the Center for Transportation Research recommended in 1996 that Texas build multi-modal corridors(super duper highways), 9 years before SPP. Third, TxDOT revealed the TTC system in 2001, 4 years before SPP.

Additionally, the conspiracy weavers say that the super duper highway will be built all the way to the Canadian border. The reality is that others states thru which I 69 will run have plans in place that don't include a super duper highway. In fact, it is not certain that Texas will build them.

The reality is that the Texas population will double in the coming decades and more roads will be built, just as more lakes, power plants, schools, etc will be built. Likewise, foreign trade will increase and increasing amounts will enter the US thru Texas, via rail and road.

I used to live in NE Texas and loved it!

That corridor will abslutely ruin one of the most beautiful parts of Texas.

Bulls..t!!!

All they are doing is gauging the temperament of the public...Seeing how much PR work and flim flam they are going to have to buy to convert the stupid people into voting for this thing when they have to have a state-wide referendum...

They know exactly how much they are going to have to push this thing down our throats...

When the time comes to nip this in the bud, we need to not ever forget these times and these meeting they are conducting...

Remember they have already altered the Texas Transportation Code with a big section for the TTC, with all the rules and regulations, fee structures, and all the beauracracy involved in running the biggest eminent domain land grab in the history of this country...

All under the guise of “for the public good”...

Well, looks like the public doesn’t want this “good stuff”...

A theoretical 2x4 smack upside a few of these peoples heads might make the kind of impact this thing needs to just go away...

Cintra and all these politicos who stand to gain from the creation of this debacle need to be shown the door...

That’s why you get a stainless Submariner instead of the gold blinged out one. Not only do they not stand out, they are built like Russian tank. It is something you can pass down for generations.

Isn’t it funny how the slogan “Don’t Mess with Texas” used to refer to not throwing trash on the highways? Seems like TxDoT ought to be reminded of that little phrase. It takes on a whole new meaning now.

But, but, President Bush has told me that this whole thing is nothing more than a conspiracy theory pushed by wackos. He wouldn’t lie to me would he?

Ron Paul told me the same thing last year when I asked him. He acted dumb like he didn't know anything about it.
