A new report from the Barna Group warns political campaigns that assuming the evangelical vote is "splintering" over abortion would be a mistake, with 19 of every 20 members of that group citing the issue as their top concern.
The report comes just as the U.S. marks the 35th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision in the U.S. Supreme Court that found in the Constitution a fundamental right to terminate a pregnancy at any time for any reason.
"One of the myths about the 2008 election is that the evangelical vote is splintering over issues such as abortion and homosexuality. In fact, when defined based upon a consistent set of theological perspectives, evangelicals remain very united on abortion and homosexuality," said David Kinnaman, president of the Barna Group and director of the study.

It’s a love-fest down there in Brazil where it’s illegal.
Socialism and slavery and tyranny (and all attendant issues) should be our primary focus.
Making it illegal is too difficult from a presidential standpoint, is too costly in terms of the political capital we need for more important issues. There are a lot of people who ‘chose life’ and immediately began not only draining the public coffers but more importantly churned out little juvenile delinquents and broken souls.
Abortion is just one aspect of the fight for life and liberty and it’s unrealistic to expect America to go against the world grain when we are marching so close to it on many other issues (which we need to fight on.)
Rudy is not my candidate, nor is McCain.
However, when paired against ANY Democrat, I choose to play with the hand I’m dealt: the Republican candidate.
Perhaps if you would visualize 9/11 with any Democrat in control, you might better understand my point. If the mere image of that does not strike fear in you, then Heaven help us.
(Not to mention taxes, socialism, secularism/PC, “universal health care” et al)
Please re-read my first statement. Ronald Reagan and two Georges Bush have been unable to overturn Roe. While I share your pro-life sentiments, until Roe can be reversed, other issues must take center stage.
We can’t afford to sit out elections. Sorry, but the legacies of Kennedy/Johnson/Carter/Clinton have remained well past their terms in the form of bureaucrats and judges. The more elections these jerks win, the more difficult it becomes for our issues, including abortion.
“SO the solution to the abortion question is the same as the solution to the slavery question. A Constitutional amendment.”
I understand your position. If I believed for one second that a Huckabee presidency would actually accomplish such a thing, I would be campaigning for him up and down the street - regardless of whatever his other positions were. However, I’m not naive enough to think that.
On the day abortion becomes illegal, I want to Thank God, and not praise allah.
Without first defeating the IslamoFascists that wish to convert everyone to Sharia law (sp), none of the other stuff matters!
I think that is a bit of a stretch, if not boarding on being an outright lie.
He doesn't support abortions. He doesn't advocate abortions. He supports the reduction of abortions within the limits of the current law.
Now, whether you want to take issue with him supporting the right to choose is another story.
Would Democrats be silent about a war that took 49 million lives?
Pro-choice = pro-abortion. Here’s why: Someone is for the right to choose abortion, therefore by inference they want some abortions to occur (hence, pro-abortion). Otherwise they would be for making it illegal.
If you want to see a Court packed with Justice Ginsburgs then Romney is your man.
It is Nice to see the Evangelicals Come over to the Same View on Abortion as the Church Christ himself Founded!
“It is Nice to see the Evangelicals Come over to the Same View on Abortion as the Church Christ himself Founded!”
Easy now...you’re gonna upset the FR anti-Catholics! LOL
No nation that murders its own children deserves security, in my opinion.
