Leadership: Newsweek proclaims Obama an "icon of change." But is it a change from victory in Iraq to defeat, from low taxes to high and from prosperity to dependency?
Republican candidate Rudy Giuliani put it in context when he said, "I know there's a lot of talk about change, and change is a good thing. If you don't change you kind of step back. But there's change that's good, and there's change that's bad."
Newsweek isn't the first to raise Obama to American Idol status. During a book tour stop on NBC's "Today" show promoting the senator's book "Audacity of Hope," host Meredith Viera hailed Obama as a "rock star" and "electrifying." Commenting on his 2004 convention speech, Viera said: "Many people, afterwards, they weren't sure how to pronounce your name, but they were moved by you. People were crying."
We too cry every time he speaks, but for different reasons. Obama would move America in a dangerous direction, starting in Iraq. On Oct. 2, 2002, while still an undistinguished Illinois state senator, Oprah Winfrey's choice for president explained that while he did not oppose all wars, he opposed Iraq.

Yes.
His Muslim handlers are jumping with joy.
When will any of these inconvenient facts see the light of day and derail this dangerous charlatan?
Barack Around the Clock.
were his mother and father married? I could not tell from his website. It mentions he moved to Kenya.

Oof
I don’t know what it is about Obama that makes me want the d’RATS to vote for him. I am just tired of Bill and Hillary and their crap. It’s long past time for these two to shut up and go away. And the only way to get rid of the Clintons once and for all is for this young upstart punk (being complimentary not derrogitory) messing up her plans of cruising to the nomination. The whole point of the short primary season was to give Hillary breathing room and not have to face serious competition nor spend any serious cash, leaving her with a huge war chest going into the gneral election.
There’s no “change” offered by Obama or Hillary or any other leftist. Its the same tired class-warfare old-time socialism repackaged in a new face. It’s all just one more try at the McGovern platform.
No change at all.
When are they going to discuss that Obama belongs to an all Black Church.
Obhama will have huge coattails. This election is shaping up to be a “get even with ‘em” election. The country is going to “vote for change” and to hell with the consequences. That most of them have NO idea what the change will be seem to make utterly no difference to any of them. Never thought I would see an politicaian slicker then BJ Clinton but Obhma is it. 2008 is going to suck worse then 1992 did.
This reminds me alot of 1976 when people wanted “change” and a “Washington outsider” just like today. We got jimmy Carter, the worst president in history, and I’m afraid we are going to make the same mistake again.
If Obama loses the Democratic nomination, it will be blamed on white racism, but at least it will be blamed on white liberal racism.
If Obama loses the general election, it will be further proof of the white racism of America, rednecks, Republicans, etc. The howlings of “racism!” will get louder than ever & go on forever more.
I once lived in a country where people suddenly got bitten by the “change” bug. They chose to elect a president that had ran several times before, but had always been dismissed as a bad joke. He lasted a few months until he was ejected & fled to Panama carrying sacks of money stolen from the treasury. Literally.
You both have made great points. We would survive Obhama. Hell, we survived 8 years of the completely corrupt, Neo Marxist Clintonides. We survived Carter and LBJ, we can survive this guy.
Just would rather not have to fix the damage he would do.
I think Franklin Pierce gets that honor. Memories are short.
A close call but I think you're right. How could I forget.
Good post devolve!
