In the wake of the Iraq War, there has been much Monday morning quarter backing by America's weak offensive line (liberals) who insist the “War on Terror” is to be waged only against Osuma bin ladens al Qaeda. This essay is to make the connection of pan-Islamo Fascism and its long terrorism history. As the democratic world confronts al Qeada's Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hezbollah 's Hassan Nasrallah, and their followers, many among us are trying to understand militant Islam, where it came from and its aims. The following background material is designed to give an overview of the phenomenon that has been called "militant Islam," "fundamentalist Islam," “Islamo Fascism” “Islamism,” or "radical Islam."

Early Islamism
The roots of militant Islam go back to the thirteenth century; to a traditionalist legal philosopher named Ibn Taymiya, who opposed Islam's incorporation of western influences. The most successful militant Islamic movement, which drew its inspiration from Ibn Taymiya is the Wahhabis of Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam. Ibn Abd al-Wahhab, a fundamentalist sheikh who preached religious reform, forged an alliance with a local village chief, Muhammad Ibn Saud, to overturn un-Islamic practices that had become prevalent among the Arabia's people. As with his ideological ancestor Ibn Taymiya, Ibn Wahhab fought Muslim rulers who he believed failed to implement a pure form of Islam. I got to meet Walid Shubat after a very enlightning speech he made, in Jackson Hole, and it was quite an eye opener.
Thanks good job! I think this article highlights the danger posed by the Muslim Brotherhood. Their members create other terrorist groups like Al Qaeda. The Brotherhood are everywhere, even in our own cities in America and Europe. They present themselves as being very mainstream and open, almost like they believe in separation between mosque and state. They have politicians and they let their women show their faces. The Brotherhood even “attacks” Al Qaeda online. But I think their intentions are clear once you read more about them. They are trying to replace Christianity with Islam by reaching out to minorities and poor people in America. I think their goal is to splinter more militant organizations in America just like they do in the ME.
It’s an old islamic legend : an extortionist lives in a secret cave somewhere in the desert. He extorts money from local sheiks. If they don’t pay up he sends his assassins...OBL thus fits right in with that ancient arabic legend. Note that 911 hit the twin trade towers, a western FINANCIAL center...

Add to this the moral degeneracy and godlessness of the Western World and you have a very potent mixture. This degeneracy only validates in the Muslim mind the outlooks and attitudes of the Koran in regard to Christians and Jews and confirms their satanic nature.
Now add another ingredient to the brew: the stance of at least some Muslim clerics that mass murder of infidels is morally justified, and indeed is a righteous act of great merit, and that a person who sacrifices his own life in the act of killing infidels will be rewarded by God with the highest heaven.
With a soup of this mixture it is easy to understand all the violent, shocking acts of terrorism and mass murder in regions everywhere in this world where the Muslim world interfaces with the non-Muslim world --- where you see Muslims rubbing shoulder to shoulder with Jews, Christians, Hindus or some other religion. And you wonder about the prudence of the West in welcoming into their midst people of this particular outlook.
You also wonder how societies holding the ideal of freedom of religion can accommodate people with such outlooks.
Too many westerners have their head in the sand and we are all going to pay the price for our ignorance, by choice.
Daryl: Add to everything else that many Islamists believe that these are the End Times, when the Hadith foretells that Islam will inevitably govern the world.

The essay was long enough, my point was Islamism didn't start because of what some would call - American Imperialism - !
If I had searched, I bet I would find that there was never any time in history when Radical Muslims wouldn't have wanted to kill schoolteachers for naming a teddy bear Mohammad.
