emocrats are now planning a lighter schedule when the 110th Congress begins its second year in mid-January, according to a report in the New York Times.
House majority leader, Rep. Steny H. Hoyer , D-Md., annunced this week that the House would not be in session next year on Fridays -- except in June for work on appropriations bills.
Explaining the schedule to reporters, Hoyer said, I do intend to have more time for members to work in their districts and to be close to their families.
The dimished work schedule drew commentary from across the aisle.
Unlike Congress, the American people do not mistake motion for progress, said Rep. Thaddeus G. McCotter, R-Mich. They want results. And given the approval ratings, they are certainly convinced they arent getting them.
McCotter charged that abridging the schedule was an example of Democrats breaking promises. They said five-day weeks, he said.
He also downplayed the notion that Hoyer was also responding to Republicans who wanted more time in their home districts.
I wish he had that much concern and was as responsive to Republicans calls for input on major legislation, Mr. McCotter said.
Good idea. They also need a pay cut.
Now if we could keep them out of DC the other 6 days, it would improve the nation.
Should make them part time while we are at it.
For once a Democratic proposal I support!
The less they work, the better for our nation. We should take a page out of agricultural subsidies and pay all 535 of them to stay home and watch TV.
How about we dock their pay $10,000 for every new law they pass.
They are already a “do-nothing Congress” as it is right now! Nancy wants Congress to do even less?
sounds good to me...we don’t need these dolts “fixing” problems...
HOw about a pay cut to go along with their “working less”.
The less Congress is in session, the better for the country. I support their idea.
I personally believe that since so many of them find the burdens of office so onerous, we should do them a favor and retire as many of them as possible as soon as possible.
Wait a minute! Didn’t Pelosi promise that she was going to make her new Congress work full five day work-weeks back in January? What happened to that?
Work less? Of course. That’ll give our parasitic ruling oligarchy more time to figure out how to milk the American people of more of their hard earned money.
They can take the rest of their terms off for all I care.
GWB and Dick Cheney have got it covered.
The less they work, the less they spend. great idea.
If they could reduce it to one day every four weeks on the average, that’d probably be about right.
The less Congress is in session, the less they have time to screw up.
