Evangelical backs Thompson (Gary Bauer)
The Washington Times ^ | October 12, 2007 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Posted on 10/12/2007 6:39:19 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Christian conservative activist Gary Bauer compares Fred Thompson to Ronald Reagan in an e-mail to supporters of his Campaign for Working Families, declaring the "Law & Order" star acceptable to the faithful:

There continues to be a lot of confusion in the media and misreporting about the faith of Senator Fred Thompson and his wife, Jeri. I am happy to help clear it up.

Mrs. Thompson is a strong pro-life Christian. Senator Thompson is not a regular church attendee (neither was Ronald Reagan), but he has been very clear about his faith. He has repeatedly said in both private and public gatherings, "I am a Christian. I am right with the Lord, I am right with the people I love and I am right with the people who love me."

Now, I'm not a theologian, but for me that is a wonderful summary of a man's life and priorities. He has also repeatedly said that Roe v. Wade ought to be overturned, calling it "bad law and bad medicine."

I hope pro-family, pro-life Christians will continue to keep an open mind about Senator Thompson's candidacy, even as we work with him to strengthen his stand on some key issues. A Thompson vs. Hillary race would be an easy call for me to make.

But how will Fred be viable without Dr. Dobson's approval?

Gary Bauer is just saying this because he does not want Hilary to win and Islamo-Facists to cut his head off so do not believe him .

“But how will Fred be viable without Dr. Dobson’s approval?”

I never thought it could happen but I guess Fred and Mitt are in the same boat when it comes to the Dobson’s. Fred doesn’t go to church enough and Mitt goes to church too much. You can’t win with the Dobson’s.

Gary Bauer, on Sean Hannity, said that he would be back McCain or Rudy in the general election over Hillary and that people who think that the Kevorkian strategy of getting Hillary elected so people would be disgusted back to GOP was a foolish and dangerous strategy.

A Thompson vs. Hillary race would be an easy call for me to make.

Even if Fred is not the perfect candidate to some, I think it would be an easy call for the majority of the conservative base to make.

When did Dobson say Romney goes to church too much?

That’s good enough reason for me. I’d vote for Hillary Duff before I would ever vote for Hillary Clinton.

The Dobson’s won’t support Romney, a Mormon. They won’t support Fred, either, presumably because he doesn’t attend church regularly. That’s why I said as far as the Dobson’s are concerned Fred doesn’t go to church enough and Romney goes to church too much. Can’t win with those people.

At least Hillary Duff is easy on the eyes, and she couldn't possibly be any WORSE than the 'Beast.

Ladies and Gentlemen...I present to you our next President of the United States...Senator Fred Dalton Thompson. Yea...that works for me! Glad to have Gary Bauer aboard along with many of his supporters.

The MSM cannot force Rudy or Mitt on us. We know a true Conservative when we see one. Fred walks the walk and talks the talk. Think of the Justice nominations we will have in the next 8 years. The future of our Country is at stake.

I think you will see the numbers begin to climb in a strong and steady pace over the next few months.

It does look like Dobson and Bauer disagree on this one. We have a rift brewing in the evangelical community. This will not be good.

What is a "Dobson's"? And when did Dobson say he wouldn't support Romney because of being a Mormon?

If Rooty is the candidate we’re finished.

A liberal, pro-abort, gun-grabber as the Republican candidate the party will implode and go the way of the Whigs in 1852 who also didn’t know what they stood for.

The Republican Party will be over and done with.....and rightfully so.
