Talk snot to someone else.
***Example of 1) viciousness and 2) not answering the question put to you. Tell me again about how civil the Fred Followers are.
“Viciousness”—LOL!
I won’t hold my breath waiting for you to address the hypothetical.
“A couple of minor differences between our viewpoints is that I dont see mormonism as the same magnitude of islam. I do see it as a cult.”
I fully understand that one would not. From a purely “temporal” point of view one cannot equate them in that “Mormons” (to the best of my knowledge) don’t go around killing folks that won’t accept their belief system (although I’ve heard they make life rough on those that abandon Mormonism). Whereas, there are many factions of Islam that believe in spreading their beliefs at the point of a sword; either convert to Islam or die.
I guess I was looking at things from more of an eternal perspective when I equated the two. Both the adherents of Islam and Mormonisn will wind up in hell, because both reject the “Christ” as revealed in scripture. Islam makes him a mere prophet and mormonism distorts His full and proper Diety. So, I guess I need to add Jehovah Witnesses and many others to that “equate” list. Take care.
How much credibility does Bauer have anymore. Between the allegations of him having an improper relationship with a female campaign aid and then choosing to endorse McCain does anyone take him seriously as a Christian leader anymore?
Hey, thanks for trying to reach out to our side of the divide and remind everyone that at the end of the day we are going to be allies. I know I have been a little bit snarky in some of my posts, and I apologize for that. For my part I am going to try and do my best to keep things civil - though I will probably occassionaly need to be reminded.

***I don’t know. But it might be enough for others to break ranks. The explanation for all of this would be very simple if Bauer were a charlatan. That’s just a terrible thing to hope for. If it were the case, Dobson has a REAL tough issue on his hands.

***Well, that’s certainly the better perspective! The only way to lose a debate when you take that perspective is if your analysis is incorrect.

***You touch on what I consider to be THE ESSENTIAL issue in ALL of history — that Jesus claimed to be equal with God Himself. That is why He was put to death on the cross, and even His enemies at the time acknowledge that to be the case. Of course, his enemies did not (and do not) think He was God, they thought He was a deceiver, a lunatic.
The deity of Christ is the central tenet to all of history. It is the dividing line between a true believer and a Jehovah’s Witness, between a real christian and a fake one, between a cult follower of Mormonism and a genuine Christian, and even between a non-christian and Christian. I have even had people of Bahai faith, who like to claim that they believe in everything you can put forth to them, I’ve had them say that Jesus Christ was not God.
If Dr. James Dobson has determined that Thompson does not believe that Jesus Christ is God Himself, that would prohibit him from endorsing Thompson. And it would leave Dobson with little choice but to either keep silent or endorse the true believer in Christ in the race (either Hunter or Huckabee, maybe even others). Mitt is out, rudy is out, McCain is probably out. Such a scenario would shed a tremendous light on the motivations of Gary Bauer if it were true as well. It would mean that Bauer does not care that Thompson is a genuine believer in Christ. In that scenario, Dobson has some tough decisions to make, and his principles dictate that he should endorse the genuine believer in the race that most closely matches his other views.
I don’t know whether Bauer is a Charleton or not. Probably he is sincere. However, I do know that I lost a lot of respect for him during the 2000 primary election. First, there were allegations that he was having an affair with a staffer. He denied the allegations but was very upset that anyone would question his decision to spend large amounts of time alone behind closed doors with a female staffer. His campaign manager and a lot of his staff quit. Then when his campaign completely lost steam he dropped out of the race and instead of endorsing Keyes or even Bush he endorsed McCain who had just had some very unpleasent things to say about Christian Conservatives. I at least felt that Bauer had sold us out and I haven’t really trusted him since. However, he may still have some influence with other social conservatives.
