Tiffany Barwick and Michael Ruschak asked the cops to protect them from Barwick's former boyfriend.
She told them he had harassed her, threatened to kill her, bought a gun and sent an image of her riddled with bullet holes.
A Seminole deputy advised her to get a protective court order. We all know how effective they are against the criminally obsessed.
The deputy also would send her complaint to the State Attorney's Office, which is akin to tossing it into the Grand Canyon.
There is a lesson in all this.
The cops can't protect you.
The cops could not protect Erin Belanger and her five friends who were beaten to death by Troy Victorino and his band of thugs in Deltona.

Given this reality, given that Central Florida is turning into a bad Mad Max sequel, my liberal belief in gun control is getting wobbly.

If there were no guns, I would say allow no guns. But since all the wrong people already have them, and the cops can't do much about it except match their firepower, then it may well be time to arm thyself, citizen.

Responsible gun owners don't use guns irresponsibly. Go figure.
Like watching a puppy open its eyes for the first time, so it is when a liberal has the scales fall from his eyes.
Will holding up that protective order stop the projectiles when that guy starts firing? It WON’T???
Get a gun.
This might interest you and the other members of the Banglist.
Saw a FReeper tagline the other day: I carry a gun because I can’t carry a policeman.
We can only hope, from this line, that the scales are not only falling from his eyes on gun control but on the entire liberal agenda.
Huh? If there were no guns you wouldn't have to disallow them!
I like it!
bttt
Its just a shame that it took an act of pure evil to open those eyes...
“given that Central Florida is turning into a bad Mad Max sequel, my liberal belief in gun control is getting wobbly.”
What kinda nonsense is this. Central Florida is not turning into Mad Max. The major problem areas are similiar to those in many other areas. The inner city and the areas with high numbers of illegals. Not that illegals are all criminals but lots of criminals seem to be here illegally.
I am firmly convinced that one of the most valuable things a father can do for his daughter is TEACH HER TO SHOOT at an EARLY age, and when she is of age, BUY HER A GUN and see that she gets CCW training.
Any human of the female persuasion who believes that "restraining orders" do **** is living in a fool's paradise.
Nope. As in this case, if no one has guns, the strong rule by brute force. I would hate to live in a world where guns were never invented.
Never owned a gun of any kind, never would (too many kids & nervous Nellies around): but I absolutely have always supported and appreciated anyone responsible who does.
Holy epiphanies, Batman, should I look west for the rising sun?
Well, not yet. But we're working on you.
How is a sincere criminal, trying hard, going to get ahead in his profession if his victim fails to cooperate?
Almost all crime depends on the cooperation of the victim.
If the victim refuses his assigned role, the criminal is placed at a disadvantage, one so severe that it usually takes an understanding and compassionate judge to set right.
LAZARUS LONG
I hear you. While I was reading the paper this morning I kept turning back to the front page to check that it really was the Orlando Sentinel.
Usually I just read the sports page, only reason I subscribed is because they have an outstanding sports page, and I saw this headline and wondered how the author could spin it into a "More gun control needed" story.
I was as shocked to see it didn't become that as I was the last time I saw a chicken chewing tobacco.
Learning to shoot at the earliest possible age is the best cure for both. It is the kids who have never been around guns who are most likely to do "something stupid" when they are exposed to them for the first time.
I grew up in the rural South, and my father started exposing me (and later my brother) to guns at four years old (we both held the pistol, his hand over mine, while I "shot" it). This instantly shows the child the concrete difference between a REAL gun and any toy in a way they NEVER forget. The same thing went on with all my classmates. And household guns were NEVER locked in gun cabinets---they were stored loaded and ready to use and ready to hand. I "never" (and I mean NEVER) heard about a "firearms accident" with a gun. Hunting accidents, yes---but NEVER with a gun at home.
