The holiday traditions are facing elimination in some Oak Lawn schools this year after complaints that the activities are offensive, particularly to Muslim students.
Final decisions on which of the festivities will be axed will fall to the principals at each of Ridgeland School District 122's five schools, Supt. Tom Smyth said.
Parents expect that the announcement is going to add to the tension that has been building since officials agreed earlier this month to change the lunch menu to exclude items containing pork to accommodate Muslim students. News that Jell-O was struck from the menu caused such a stir that officials have agreed to bring it back. Gelatin is often made with tissue or bones of pigs or other animals.
That controversy now appears to have been been dwarfed by the holiday debate, which became so acrimonious Wednesday that police were called to Columbus Manor School to intervene in a shouting match among parents.
"It's difficult when you change the school's culture," said Columbus Manor Principal Sandy Robertson.
Elizabeth Zahdan, a mother of three District 122 students, says she took her concerns to the school board this month, not because she wanted to do away with the traditions, but rather to make them more inclusive. "I only wanted them modified to represent everyone," she said.

If you’re a human being or just have a pulse, you’re offensive to the Mohammadan (w)hor(d)es.
I wonder if they accomodate the Catholics by having fish ONLY on Friday’s during Lent. I think that if they have any meat products during those six Friday’s that it could be unfair for Catholoics to have to watch others eating a steak.
Jews have similar dietary laws, and I don’t recall anytime Jews tried to change what everyone else ate. But then again, they simply don’t eat forbidden foods - they don’t seem to take personal offence at being near it. If Americans continue to remove everything a Muslim finds offensive, we’ll be living under Shira law. If that is what they want, maybe they should think about relocating 6 or 7,000 miles further east.
But no, that won’t happen. Many want to change the USA into their image - an Islamic State.
Beyond comments here on FR, when are people going to start showing some guts and start protesting against this crap - or are we going to wait for the United States of Islam first.
I can't disagree with the guy on this particular point. The three R's is their purpose and he is correct that we can't accommodate all the different cultures in our society into our public school educational system. The only culture they need to teach in-depth is the American culture. And that is the melting pot that should be America. Return the responsiblilty for cultural heritage back over to the parents and grandparents.
Christmas is a National Holiday celebrate it as such in the schools. Celebrate it by teaching what "Good Will towards All Men" means in America and how that spirit works throughout the world.

Muslims, for whatever reason, seem to feel as though they have the RIGHT to be accommodated on any aspect of their life they deem problematic.
Taxi drivers won’t drive people carrying alcohol...no problem, won’t drive the blind with seeing eye dogs,(or any dog).....no problem.(I think that some compromise on this has been worked out on this, but I’m not sure)
Have to wash and pray five times a day......no problem, we’ll install special washing stations and areas for prayer.
If you don’t like the traditions, customs, and menus in our public school, where btw YOU are the minority, ....no problem we’ll just eliminate them.
If your in Great Britain and those pesky piggy banks, stuffed animals in the likeness of pigs, and butcher shop ads for pork give you the willy’s, don’t worry we’ll forbid them in any place you might work,bank, perhaps someday frequent or happen to pass by.
Flying back to your home country for a visit? To make sure that your trip is a happy one, we’ll make sure that you’re not horrified by the sight of a cross around the neck of one of our flight attendants.
When will this stop?
It isn't for whatever reason, it is because they are convinced, repeat CONVINCED, that GOD has provided his final word on these and other subjects, and by insisting on these things they are only fulfilling the will of God. This is NOT a matter of personal dietary laws for them. In their minds they are doing it not merely for themselves, but in the name of God, for us, the damned.
When will it end?
It will ONLY end when Muslims become convinced that they DON'T have the final word of God on their side; in other words, when they are no longer Muslims.
This is a war to end Islam as we know it, and this war is only beginning. Think of it; we still tolerate these swine on our sacred land, paid in the blood of our fathers. Not only that but we are kissing up to them as well? Once fully engaged, we will be at war for generations. But I fear there will be more more atrocities befall us at the hands of the Jihidis before we become convinced once and for all, and before we will become ready to do what will be required of us.

I wish somebody had a decent Halo type quality video game about a global war of Christian soldiers retaking earth from planetary rule of Islam that has taken all technology and modern conveniences that were contrary to Islam and turned the whole planet into a footbath, the story could be several hundred years in the future or just a decade or two but basically its a gorefest shooting gallery of several billion Muslims against the free society of man that is far outnumbered but possess superior weapons.
I am playing Halo 3 and its possible with the Theater recordings to edit out the images of the Covenant and replaced with muslim terrorists just for the heck of it.

BTW, read a piece where someone enjoying a sausage biscuit at a bus stop is accosted by a Muslim who denounces pigs & pork and demands he consume some other kind of meat (!).
He calmly responds that if said Muslim were to be hit by a bus and needed a transfusion, the blood would have most likely been donated by an American pig-eater. The Muslim turned pale, shouted “Allah has placed a seal on your heart!”, and ran away sickened.
