Iran's nuclear ambitions are just one aspect of the mullahs' iron-fisted approach to maintaining their power. According to an article in the Monday Wall Street Journal (entitled "Domestic Terror in Iran"), the powers that be that run the Islamic Republic are cracking down against "anti-Islam hooligans," as well as "trade union leaders, student activists, journalists and even mullahs opposed to the regime." After describing the recent public execution of seven men, the author, Amir Tahiri, states:

"The Mashad hangings, broadcast live on local television, are among a series of public executions ordered by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last month as part of a campaign to terrorize an increasingly restive population. Over the past six weeks, at least 118 people have been executed, including four who were stoned to death. According to Saeed Mortazavi, the chief Islamic prosecutor, at least 150 more people, including five women, are scheduled to be hanged or stoned to death in the coming weeks.

"The latest wave of executions is the biggest Iran has suffered in the same time span since 1984, when thousands of opposition prisoners were shot on orders from Ayatollah Khomeini."
...
"The campaign of terror also includes targeted 'disappearances' designed to neutralize trade union leaders, student activists, journalists and even mullahs opposed to the regime. According to the latest tally, more than 30 people have 'disappeared' since the start of the new Iranian year on March 21. To intimidate the population, the authorities also have carried out mass arrests on spurious grounds.

Fascinating Analysis of Leftist Goals, August 13, 2006

Reviewer: N. Sincerity - See all my reviews

A former 1960s radical, Horowitz is well-acquainted with the Leftist mindset. In this book, he strives to explain the modern alliance between left wing progressivists and radical Islamofascists. He argues that this alliance is based on a common desire to destroy Western capitalism. Leftist sympathy with Islamofascist ideas makes no sense from an intellectual point of view, given that countries ruled by radical Islamists are among the most racist, sexist, theocratic states in the world today. However, Leftists have recognized that they can benefit politically from destructive terrorist attacks on the Western world. A West under attack can be made to turn on its leaders in fear and desperation (as they did in Spain after the Madrid train bombings). Only once people reject current government structures can the Left execute its anti-capitalist revolution and build a new reality that mirrors the Leftist view of utopia.

The complete and utter idealogical hypocrisy of the Islamofascist-Leftist alliance is distressing, but as Horowitz reminds us,

Leftists radicals truly believe the ends justify the means.

If the tables ever turn on the mad mullahs, they will run like rats to get out of Iran. You can bet on it. What Iran needs is a government in exile with a voice.

Joel Rosenberg's "Epicenter" book has a chapter on Christianity's spread in Arab/Muslim countries.

Lots of Iranian Christians. Many coming to faith in Jesus due to dreams and visions. Pretty much what Scriptures say will happen in the last days.

Book also says that Ahmadinejad's goal is to get rid of Christianity in Iran. Its presence undermines the Islamic Republic's "Muslim Wonderland" image.

Christians, pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Iran and other Arab countries.

My first thought, also: the orgasmic dream of Soros, the Clintons, "Kos," and other cucharachos.

Maybe Iran is do for a regime change.

It seems to me that Iran poses the greatest danger in the middle-east... and the real reason, I believe we invaded Iraq, was to get a “foothold” in the region.(IMHO)

I noticed the other day that this situation is beginning to resemble pre-revolutionary Russia of all places. Repression of trade unions, students, opposition clerics, opposition political figures, opposition intellectuals...students of the Russian Revolution might be forgiven a case of deja vu.

Ahmadinejad, let's face it, is a two-bit punk serving as a front man for a corrupt and hated mullocracy, but this appears to be a very necessary role in an attempt to drape the Khamenei despotism with democratic trappings. Khatami is clearly a spent force. Who will play the role of Lenin? Pahlavi? It doesn't seem very much in character but I've been wrong before. As the Germans found out in Russia in 1917, all it takes is the right man at the right time and one little push in the right direction.

I guess they *are* cracking down...as evidenced by this video of an event that occurred in Iran last July. When one hears the joyful cries of "allah akbar" during this event one knows that it's a people stuck in the 9th Century he's watching.

VAPORIZATION seems the only option. You see a mad dog you have to kill it....I think this should be shown on our nat’l tv, Wake up America!

It would seem that the left has, indeed, made an “unholy” alliance with the enemies of freedom — for political reasons.

The two groups(radical Islamists and the leftest)should be inimical to each other, however, politics — we are told — make strange bedfellows.

If the civilized world loses this battle with with fascism — leftest heads will be the first to roll.

The leftest are playing with fire.

Filed under: "Not Clear on the Concept."

In case you hadn't noticed, the article is about Iran's "increasingly restive population." It seems rather counterproductive to vaporize those who are increasingly in opposition to the same folks we are.

“Homos heads would roll,then academics”

Well, “homos” fall under the umbrella of the leftist as a, so called, protected group.

Most “homos” ARE leftest or left leaning.

Leftest are also, supposedly, opposed to any trace of sexism or theocracy.

The point is leftest would not be able to practice their leftism (if you will) in an Islamic-fascist society.

From the perspective of the Islamo-fascists, the leftest are no more than “useful idiots” who will be dealt with at the proper time and place.

The irony is that the leftest AND the Islamo-fascist BOTH hate America, but the Islamo-fascists hate America(the great satin)for the very practices and beliefs(homosexuality and so forth)that the left vehemently support!

Strange bedfellows, indeed!

Whoops, just when the "peace at any price" crowd thought they'd found some of those elusive "Iranian moderates" they could negotiate with, Khameini and Nutjob had 'em whacked.
