It is true that there were plenty of “loyalists” in NYC who dined and partied with the British, eagerly supplied them, spend the war years relatively fat & happy from British patronage, etc. I don’t know what the exact proportion was, but overall it has often been estimated that 1/3 of people across the colonies were loyalists, 1/3 were rather neutral, and only maybe 1/3 were active supporters of independence. Of course, the proportions may have varied in different locales.....

“we would like nothing better than to get the hell out of there.”

no, I would think we have plans for permanent/ semi-permanent military bases in Iraq (like South Korea, for example). We don’t nessecarily want to run their country ala British India, but I would say that policy makers want to ensure that we can control the flow of Iraqi oil if need be.

Why do lefties need to make these stupid analogies?

OK..OK...maybe I can do that, too.

Iraq Is Like 1776 Only This Time, ‘We’re The British’
and we have Stealth bombers, nuclear weapons, and we want to purge the bad guys and impose peace and freedom on our colony.

Hey, they voted for Kerry big time, after “W” coughed up the big bucks for added protection.

If you hooked Bloomberg’s brain to a generator, and ran the wires to a firefly, you could write up the firefly for insufficient tailights.

Bloomberg makes Chicago’s Mayor Daley look normal. And Daley’s kid’s enlisted in the Army.

Don’t be so easily manipulated folks. The headline is very misleading. He’s still wrong, but not for the reason you probably think.

Of course he is but just look at where he was and to whom he was preaching. The people he was addressing have been fed a steady diet of left wing crap from their birth. They will accept anything that confirms their programming as gospel.

Liberals never like to have their beliefs challenged by facts.

It was 1777 and it was the provisional capital in Philadelphia that was occupied on September 26th by our friends across the pond.

Great post MN !!!

To start with Saddam’s Iraq was our most immediate threat. We could NOT commit significant military forces to another battle with Saddam hovering undefeated on our flank nor could we leave significant forces watching Saddam.

Does one think we were going to storm the beaches of Iran or paradrop into Iran with no logistically secure supply line especially with a hostile Iraq on our flank. Afghanistan has NO PORTS all supplies have to be brought in by air or over another nations boundaries. Not a good thing for major operations that could involve hundreds of thousands of troops.

Did any of the critics of liberating Iraq ever look at a map? Iraq, for which we had the political, legal and moral justifications to attack, is the strategic high ground of the Middle East. A Geographic barrier that severs ground communication between Iran and Syria apart as well as providing another front of attack in either state or into Saudi Arabia if needed.

Iraq also has a deep water port and is adjacent to Iran. Why do you think this makes Iranian leaders spoil their undies. The U.S. is adjacent to Iran on two sides and has access to a deep water port for resupply capabilities.

Americans need to understand how Bin Laden and his ilk view us. In the Arab world the USA is considered a big wimp. We have run away so many times. Lebanon, the Kurds, the Iraqis in 1991, the Iranians, Somalia, Clinton all thru the 1990s etc etc etc. The Jihadists think we will run again. In fact they are counting on it. That way they can run around screaming “We beat the American just like the Russians, come join us in Jihad” and recruit the next round of “holy warriors”. Iraq is also a show place where we show the Muslim world that there are a lines they cannot cross. On 9-11-01 they crossed that line and we can, and will, destroy them for it -

Exactly ! the line in the sand has been drawn. If you want to make war on us expect to be in a war.

"We're the British," the mayor said during an interview with Tom Brokaw at Cooper Union, part of a series featuring potential presidential contenders hosted by former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

Talk about an event in an echo chamber: a former news reader interviewing a man who doesn't have a snowball's chance at the Presidency hosted by another classic (also passe and overcome-by-events) FDR liberal Dem!

We're the British? Who are the Minutemen - al Quaeda? And Ahmedinejad is LaFayette? And OBL is Casimir Pulaski?

How does such an idiot get so rich?

Until now, I thought Bloomberg was too bossy, but intelligent.

Now he has proven he is too bossy and dangerously illogical.
