Now that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has spoken at Columbia University, it's on to the United Nations, where there's a tight security net.
As many as 25,000 people from around the metro area and the country flocked to the U.N. to protest Ahmadinejad's visit.
Many are demanding an end to Iran's nuclear threat.
The NYPD's eye in the sky took security pictures. On the ground, beefy machine-gun toting cops provided an extra layer of protection for Israel's foreign minister as she demand Iran's president be reigned in by the world community.
"There's a need to stop Ahmadinejad," Tzipi Livni said. "His hatred, his incitement, his ideas
are based on extreme ideology."
Among the tens of thousands on hand was a Brooklyn woman blowing a ram's horn. The trumpet, she said, brought God's promise that, "I will defeat your enemies."
There were also Iranians against Ahmadinejad.
"I'm here to support the Jews," Miriam Reid of Houston, Texas. "They are God's people."
Added Joey Hecht of Great Neck: "Ahmadinejad is exactly the same human being as Hitler. It's a disgrace that we let him into the country."
The throngs came to hear dozens of elected officials demand new U.N. sanctions -- world sanctions -- to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities.
"We are all here to send one clear message that there is no place for hatred or terrorism," said NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Said Sen. Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey: "Iran's march to nuclear Islamic fundamentalist power is not just a threat to Israel; he's a threat to the United States and that of the world."
Rep Jerrold Nadler, D-Manhattan, said Ahmadinejad appears to enjoy being compared to some of the most notorious figures in human history.
"President Ahmadinejad seeks to be another Hitler," Nadler said. "He is joyful about being another Hitler. He brags about being another Hitler."
Many politicians demanded new sanctions for Iraq, including a move to force pension funds to divest from companies that do business with Iran.

Yes he did! There’s a video of him saying that at the link. I was shocked, too.

.....a Brooklyn woman blowing a ram's horn. The trumpet, she said, brought God's promise that, "I will defeat your enemies." A shofar. I'd like to get me one someday.
It evokes images of the movie The Ten Commandments

Why is this filth on our fair countrys soil?Because we have, as a nation, lost our balls to call a spade a spade. Sickening isn't it?

There's a poll on that same CBS page that needs to be freeped:
Ahmadinejad/Columbia Web Poll
Did Columbia's president go too far in criticizing Ahmadinejad in his welcome?
Yes...43%
No....57%

As many as 25,000 people from around the metro area and the country...
Why is that we can never get any kind of actual count of protesters at such an event? Does no one have some cameras to point at them and count them? Don't the police have a way to tell if it's 5,000 or 25,000?
Seems like the only public event we can't ever seem to count is public protests. I think the numbers are greatly exaggerated in all these protests.

I haven’t seen this much protesting since “The Limo” episode on Seinfeld, where George pretended to be O’Brien, in order to get a free limo ride. Turns out O’Brien was the head of the regional chapter of the Aryan Union, a high-profile Neo-Nazi organization, and was scheduled to make his first public appearance at the Paramount, adjacent to MSG, to deliver the speech at a rally. Well, anyone that knows Seinfeld, knows the episode.
