Iraqis captured en route to U.S. {EU passports}
Washington Times ^ | September 11, 2007 | Kelly Hearn

LIMA, Peru -- Ten Iraqi citizens with forged passports are in a Peruvian prison after an apparent bid to enter the United States on a flight to Los Angeles, officials here say...One of the men arrested is thought to have links to al Qaeda, said Peruvian National Police Col. Roberto Lujan...The plot unfolded June 21, when three Iraqis entered Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima attempting to board a flight to Los Angeles. Airline officials alerted police after two of the men holding Dutch passports could not speak Dutch. Citizens of the Netherlands are not required to hold a visa to enter the United States...

None of the three Iraqis arrested in the airport spoke Spanish. One gave police the name of a 40-year-old Spanish-speaking Iraqi citizen named Rafid Joboo Pati, the reputed leader. Police said the Iraqis entered Peru on May 11 and passed through the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Ecuador without authorities noticing that their documents were fake...

On July 17, police raided three apartments and arrested seven persons, including Mr. Pati. Mr. Pati confirmed that all of the suspects were Iraqis. Two had Dutch passports, two carried Ecuadoran identification and two held Iraqi passports, police said. Mr. Pati carried an Ecuadoran passport...

Interpol advised Peruvian police that two of the Dutch passports were reported stolen last year. "We have been told by Interpol that fingerprints of one of the men carrying a Dutch passport have been sent to Baghdad and is thought to have links to al Qaeda," Col. Lujan said...The suspects were not employed during their stay..."Someone was funding them but we do not know who yet," Col. Lujan said..."These people were not part of a group," he said. "Besides the brothers, they did not even know each other."

And not Chaldean Christians, apparently. Gee, wonder who was funding this trip.

They will be wishing they were in Gitmo rather than a Peruvian prison...LOL!! Serves the Clymers right!!

Good job Peru, a country that has a lot of experience dealing with terrorists.

If this report is accurate (caveat necessary for all MSM type reportage these days) that was some heads-up security and policing.

I do imagine that they’re liable to find Peruvian “interview” techniques a bit less friendly than what they might have expected if caught by US police.

Why is it that the Wash Times has to report this type of stuff and it never gets reported in the MSM?

Because the Washington Times is a real newspaper with real journalists. They follow “leads” instead of waiting for the “fax machine”.

This isn’t a MSM wire story, it is the Wash Times, which is much more reliable. I am sure the Peruvians have their little ways with terrorists after having had to deal with the Sendero Luminoso for so many years.

Gee, you don’t think they were profiled, do ya?

Nah, that wouldn’t happen......

Kudos to the Peruvian authorities for a job well done——and American lives saved.

May the SOB's end up being indistinguishable from llama droppings.

But then again, they already bear an uncanny resemblance, being emissaries from the ROP.

I think it is interesting that they first went to the Dominican Republic, which is much closer to the U.S., before their journey through Latin America. They don’t speak Dutch, they don’t speak Spanish. Woo, hoo, Peru. It is comforting to known that at least someone in South America has our back.

Don’t ask me. I’ve gotten so jaundiced and spiteful that I don’t even try to sort the good ones from the bad anymore, when it comes to print or broadcast news.

It’s all msm to me, and all to be taken with a grain of salt and nothing taken as accurate, true or untwisted unless or until verified.

I don’t pretend to be reasonable on the issue.

I surprised they weren’t carrying legal Venezuelan passports.

Bingo. They've been arriving in Peru since May, they don't know each other, some have falsified or stolen documents, they're all funded and can identify the same Spanish-speaking Iraqi as a local POC. Sounds like an externally organized operation to me....

FoxNews would have reported it, but there was the breaking news for several days that Anna Nicole Smith's boyfriends were boyfriends.

Bingo, indeed. The whole thing stinks to high heaven. Hopefully Col. Lujan and his friends will think of some effective ways to find out more about this bunch, including who is funding them.

These poor pilgrims, cold and frightened in a Peruvian jail, probably have friends and relatives here, folks in one of those caravans Osama is talking about. They are just taking a journey where thousands have gone before them, maybe tens of thousands. They just want their piece of America, even if it means getting blown up with it. That is the old pioneer spirit that made America great. Don’t begrudge these fervent pagans their service for Allah and the hopes and dreams that bring them to this great land.

This story shows how lazy these terrorist really are. They try to fly when all they really had to do is walk. Walking across an open border into the arms of our government’s welcoming committee is a snap but no, they prefer flying to walking. If they every link up with the Mexicans we are doomed. Fake Worldwide passports and Mexican tour guide will insure their success and our demise.
