Conservatives have spent the past month gearing up for the SCHIP fight, calling it a new-look HillaryCare. They have plenty of data to show the dangerous fiscal consequences of heading down this path, such as the reliance on tobacco taxes to pay for SCHIP’s expansion. The House bill raises cigarette taxes by 45 cents per pack, and the Senate bill increases them by 61 cents. Tax hikes of that magnitude, causing many people to stop smoking, would be disastrous for state finances. In addition, millions of Americans would have to start smoking to pay for this new federal entitlement.

Not much, LOL!
* Day old bread stores are great. I can get a HUGE trash bag of bread and other goodies (Sara Lee brand, etc.) for $2. Of course, I need to sign a waiver that it’s strictly for animal feed only, but when the bread is only ONE DAY over its legal self-life and there’s room in the freezer... ;)
* Selling items on eBay and Amazon.com and a local website helps me. Haven’t used Craigs List yet, but others swear by it.
* Gleaning fields & wild food foraging. Hunting & fishing. There’s an amazing amount of food out there for the taking (with permission.) Heck, you can make a salad from things you find in your lawn if you really need to, LOL! I already have two Canada goose breasts in the freezer...and we’re only a week into the season. :)
A website would probably be the best venue for reaching women that think like we do. (You know; those of us worth our weight in ‘Rubies’ to our families.)
Someday! :)
I’ve planted raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, and blueberry bushes. Sure there’s the initial expense, but with the cost of those things in the store, I figure I’ll get my money back pretty soon, and it’s just in the backyard. No traveling for it.
I also make all my trips in one loop. I just plan it ahead and don’t have to waste gas running to the store for something I forgot.

Me, too. I shop once a week. If it’s not on the list, I don’t get it. If we need it between trips, unless it’s vital medicine, too bad. :)
I’m actually scaling back my shopping trip today. I was going to go to the next town over and hit Wal-Mart, but I think I’ll just stick local today and save gas and time. :)
(That also leaves me more time to Freep today, LOL!)
So sad to see where this country’s going.
