Don't define my rights (ALMOST TOO FUNNY LIBERAL ABORTION ALERT)
Star Newspapers (Chicago) ^ | August 30, 2007 | Anita Jirka

Posted on 09/02/2007 9:39:40 AM PDT by Chi-townChief

I am writing in response to Fran Eaton's column of Aug. 26. I have been getting to know and trying to understand the people in Chicagoland for the past 41/2 years, since we moved here from the Seattle area. We live in Homewood and it is one of the prettiest and friendliest places I have ever lived. However, I am overwhelmed by the incredible bureaucracy that exists in Illinois and amazed at how many people here want to control how others live and think. If you have lived here all your life -- and I know that many of you have -- you may not realize that it is certainly not like this everywhere else in the U.S.

It is my understanding of the U.S. government that there is a separation of church and state, yet never have I seen churches so politically active and still not paying taxes. Abortion should not even be a political item. The government has no right to tell a woman what she can or cannot do with her body. The idea that an unborn fetus is a child is strictly religious, not political or even scientific. However, if the Right can believe that this is a fact, then I have the right to believe that it is a fact that if men were the ones who got pregnant, abortion would be a God-given right and an original article in the Constitution. I am not pro-abortion, but I am pro-right-to-choose. Although I emphatically disagree with Ms Eaton's beliefs, I will defend to the death her right to state them, as she should mine. And if the Right wants to save fetuses so they can be born, grow up to be soldiers, and fight and die young in wars created for imagined threats to the U.S., then perhaps they would be more comfortable living in a culture where the church is the state, as in Muslim countries.

If Ms Eaton is so proud of the South Suburbs for being an abortion-free zone, then I can only assume that she has or is willing to adopt some of the unwanted children of the economically challenged women who live there and cannot afford safe contraception or abortions. And if this is so, then my hat is off to her.

In this country, as long as I am not threatening the life and/or liberty of others, then others do not have the right to tell me what I can do with my life, my body, my house, my yard, etc., etc. etc.

This is a couple of days old but too hilarious to pass up. Sounds like Ms. Jirka made the wrong move in going to the south suburbs for an abortion; she should have had that done before leaving Seattle. I really like this one:

"The government has no right to tell a woman what she can or cannot do with her body."

Perhaps Ms. Jirka should become a prostitute or illegal drug user or even light up a smoke in the wrong place and see what "the government" tells her.

She spelled it wrong it should be Jerka. I wonder if she feels the same way about the second amendment. I doubt she does.

This woman is confused on so many levels. Unbelievable!

“Although I emphatically disagree with Ms Eaton’s beliefs, I will defend to the death her right to state them, as she should mine.”

This is a favorite line of liberal rhetoric and about the most hollow.

This is a very immature letter. She is wrong on science. And I would bet 1,000.000 she does not support the Constitution as her consitiution has no 2nd amendment. Beware and behold ignorance. Just like a liberal to move somewhere else and try to tell everyone else they are out of touch and preach to them how they shoud live. She needs to take a long look in the mirror.

What's funny is that this isn't really the crux of the Left's argument. The Left knows, just as we all do, that an unborn baby is a life and a person, especially in the latter part of the pregnancy. The Left's REAL position is this: Yes, abortion kills a child, but the killing is justified.

I love this old hoary argument, "if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." Honey, if men could get pregnant, the government would subsidize childbirth, new parents would get six months paid leave and then get to work at home for six months, school would be open 8 hours a day all year round, all children would have free health care, taxes would be so low that one parent could always stay home with the kids, and the work day would not start until all the kids were in school.

The problem is that "women's rights" advocates decided years ago that women can best achieve equality by turning into men and killing their children, instead of forcing men to recognize and accommodate the value of children and parenthood. Abortion is the best thing that ever happened to men and the worst thing that ever happened to women.

Question for Ms. Jirka. I wonder if she supports a thug killing a mother and her un-born baby as double homicide?

Or buy and eat junk food filled with trans fats.

Is it legal for a woman to get drunk while she is pregnant?

If not, then she loses all claims to it “JUST” being her body. She is the hostess for a defenseless infant. No one calls a premature baby a “fetus on life support”. But somehow even when the head is delivered through the birth canal and the brains are sucked out of it, we are told that it is wrong to call it a “partial birth” abortion.

The Left's REAL position is this: Yes, abortion kills a child, but the killing is justified. They allude to it when they say "it's a quality of life issue" and "every child a wanted child". Sometimes people want that child but are unable to adopt. Some adults who want to adopt find it easier to adopt a foreign child and have him/her brought to America. Not cheaper but easier.

Wonder how much Planned Parenthood et al muck about with adoption laws.

No one forces a woman to become pregnant. But if she does have sex with a man and does conceive a child, then the unborn child's life deserves consideration. Its not there to be disposed of because its existence is inconvenient. I'm not holding my breath waiting for the Left to honestly address the subject.

Actually, if men gave birth, they would be women, and the debate would simply begin anew.

“I am not pro-abortion, but I am pro-right-to-choose.”

Uh, actually, lady, your right to choose can be invoked at many opportunities, from keeping your knees together to watching the calendar to BC pills to rubbers/diaphragms to foam and even the morning-after pill.

Obviously not, for if they were you would be in serious legal trouble for any harm done to them.

Exactly! With the availability of contraceptives today, the abortion justification is a shopworn excuse for the careless and lazy.
