MOSCOW The remains of the last czar's hemophiliac son and heir to the Russian throne, missing since the royal family was gunned down nine decades ago by Bolsheviks in a basement room, may have been found, an archaeologist said Thursday.
Bones were found in a burned area in the ground near Yekaterinburg, the city where Czar Nicholas II and his wife and children were held prisoner and then shot in 1918.
A top local archaeologist said the bones belong to a boy and a young woman roughly the ages of the czar's son, Alexei, and a daughter whose remains have also never been found.

While it is awful what the Communists did to these people and millions like them, it is important to remember that the Romanov Dynasty was a dictatorship vested with absolute power just like the Bolsheviks. The Revolution of 1917 simply replaced one regime with another.
Horrible event. Interesting story.
The slime Yurovsky toured Russia giving speeches to children’s “Pioneer” camps about how proud he was as a Bolshevik to have killed the family and describing the murders in detail.
Nicolas was a weak an inept leader with a fool for a wife. But what the communists did to the czars family was a precursor to what they did to Russia. A very sad story about the end of the Romanovs.
That is exactly the story that the Bolshi’s gave about how they tried to “dissolve” the bodies.
I’m glad they have finally been found if true.
It’s not that the Russians want the Empire back. What they are getting back is their history, which Communism took away from them.
That's the end result of any Revolution.
Murdered way too young....
“...the Romanov Dynasty was a dictatorship vested with absolute power just like the Bolsheviks...”
That is not true. The last czar never had the power of Stalin. And by the time of the October Revolution it was a Duma and Kerensky that were being overthrown. The Czar and Kerensky were both teddy bears compared to Lenin and Stalin.
Nicholas II didn’t have the power of his predecessors or his followers not because he didn’t want it, but because he couldn’t get it. The Duma and Kerensky were running the show because Nicholas II was powerless to stop them (it was only a few years before that the Czar told the Duma to get lost).
Understand this and understand it well, communism is nothing more than feudalism modified for the industrial world. The political philosophy behind a feudal aristocracy- that the masses work for a government run by select elitists- is the same for a communist regime. When William the Conqueror took over England, he replaced all the Saxon land owners with people loyal to him. When Stalin took over Russia, he replaced all the farm and factory owners with people loyal to him.
I bet his remains were found right next to Anastasias.

How old should one be before being murdered? j/k
The Tsar was simply a remaining vestige of the absolute monarchy or emperor that had been the rule in most countries for millienia.
Comparing a traditional political system of absolute authority to the brutality of the Communists who slaughtered and starved millions of innocents in a supposedly more enlightened regime and age is hardly fair and balanced.
Didn’t the Czar abdicate (or was in the process of abdicating)? I do remember that the Kerensky government was the one that was actually deposed by the Bolsheviks — that much I remember. My memory of the events is a little hazy. High School history was a long time ago.
Russia was in the process if industrializing, but it was the least industrialized of the major European powers by the time of the October Revolution. Marx & Engels had Great Britain in mind when they came up with the theory behind the proletariate revolution. Ie. Feudalism-Capitalism-Communism was to be the ‘natural’ progression of things. Russia went straight from Feudalism to Communism without passing Go or collecting $200.
Many (not all) Czars also committed unspeakable acts of cruelty and brutality. Ivan the Terrible is most notorious for this. Absolute monarchy may be a “traditional political system”, but it is also a dictatorship that stops at nothing to protect its own power. People who questioned the authority and abuses of communist dicators faced torture and murder. People who questioned the authority and abuses of czarist dictators weren’t treated any better. The Bolsheviks made the people slaves on farms and factories run by Bolshevik cronies. The Aristocracy made the people serfs on farms run by Aristocrats. The Bolsheviks justified themselves by appealing to “enlightment” and “progress”. The Romanovs justified themselves by appealing to the Gospel of Christ (even more galling).
It is for good reason that by the end of “Animal Farm”, the animals could no longer distinguish between Napoleon the Pig and Farmer Jones.
