The war in Iraq will be a major issue during the Democratic National Convention in Denver, DNC chairman Howard Dean told several hundred people at the west entrance to the Pepsi Center this afternoon.

"Every single one of the Republicans running for president thinks we ought to stay in Iraq, maybe for as long as 50 years," said Dean. "Every Democrat thinks we ought not to be there."

The gathering was held to mark the one-year countdown to the 2008 convention.

We’re still in Japan, Korea, Germany, etc., after 50 years...

The war will be a big issue.

Illegal immigration will be the biggest issue.

"Every Democrat thinks we ought not to be there."

Not true. Lieberman completely agrees with Bush on this. (Yeah I know he's technically an independent now, but when he was a Dem he still had the same position). Anyway, in other words, every other Democrat thinks we should surrender.

How much “focus” does it require to surrender?

They’ll focus on Iraq to please the left wing idiots who support their sorry excuse for a political party.

I don’t think we ought to be making the argument that we’re going to be in Iraq for 50 years.

08 issues should be exposing Liberal traitors who are anti-American, anti-military and throw in corrupt, power hungry and ego maniacs.

LOL Dean seems to be in agreement with many Freepers that Ron Paul is not a Republican! RP is much more clear about leaving Iraq than Hildebeast.

No, but underselling the difficulties is a big mistake too. If Bush had repeated his "hard work" mantra from the outset, war fatigue might not have set in as quickly. Elections are won in the middle in this country, and expectation management is part of that.

Sorry, replace underselling with understating.
