I still don’t know why I watch that Scheiffer crap but must be a glutton for punishment.
I think it’s the same reason I watch Cafferty with Blitz. I am within their age range, am very, very happy with my retired life, and just wonder what two such bitter people did to ruin their lives.
I have never been happier to see two people so bitter. They deserve their fate. Maybe they should have invested better and gotten out before they became such pitiful excuses for “newsmen”.

Thanks. Here is the actual quote, yet the writer of the cbs web piece has quote marks around the truncated version, without any ellipses. I could never be in politics and have people misquote me or take my words out of context all the time.
Mr. ROVE: I disagree particular if that is what you think the template is. You cannot be a candidate like President Bush was in 2004 and get 60 million votes for president, more than any candidate for president in the history—get 25 percent more votes in 2004 than he got in 2000. Get 48 percent of women, 44 percent of Latinos, 29 percent of Jews as a Republican candidate, get 48 percent more black votes in 2004 than he got in 2000, and do so by, quote, “playing to your base.” Now, I know that opposition talks about playing to the base, and I want them to keep thinking that’s the right strategy. But you win elections like this president won in 2000 and 2002 and 2004 by broadening the coalition, by getting more people to register and to vote, and by persuading people who might have been inclined to the other side to come across for you.

Wahhhh — they covered the hurricane Dean and all the flooding — and pre-empted Fox News Sunday on Fox News Channel. Didn’t watch it this morning.

This is the fourth or fifth time I've responded to this phony argument. Here goes.
The combined effect of the two amendments you cited is this: No one who is not eligible to be elected President is eligible to be elected Vice President. Consider the example of the age requirement, set by the text of the original Constitution. Since a President must be 35 when elected, so must a Vice President.
A President can die within 45 days of taking office (witness William Henry Harrison). Therefore, a VP must be qualified to be elected President when he (she) is elected as Vice President. Otherwise, an under-aged VP might be in a position to become President, while bared from being elected President. That creates a conflict between two different parts of the Constitution, which is an improper result.
This is not even a close question. Only ignorant members of the press who haven't done their homework continue from time to time, to push this constitutional garbage.

I understand Bush's reluctance to engage the enemy, especially if he thinks it will divert his attention or soil the dignity of the White House. Unfortunately, by allowing the Left wing Drive-By Media party to define the debate, he has endangered our nation.
A president can not stay above politics. At the very least, he should marshal his own party to do the party's own bidding, for goodness sake.

Top Three for August 19, 2007
Third Place Laverne - Great comments, an excellent link along with participation and right on critique on CSPANs propaganda fest!
- #6; "Im watching cspan, Clara Jeffery from Mother Jones is on the air. What an anti-american weenie. Since I honor their request to only call in every 30 days, Im refraining this morning. However, I did send an email asking where is the balance? She is spewing dnc leftwing anti-american talking points for the entire segment and its disgraceful that cspan doesnt have an opposing position on the air. ... A few good republican callers this morning taking her on, but in large measure she is just spewing propaganda. ... Shame on cspan."
- #19; "Here is what I sent: ... With all due respect to Washington Journal, your guest today is a left-leaner who presents NO objectivity to any argument. She is merely spewing the leftwing talking points, without any context. ... Unemployment is at historical lows. ... The market is at historical highs. ... More homeowners than ever in history. ... America is the greatest country. ... Just because people she supports (John Kerry) calls the United Stated a periha in a foreign land, doesnt make it true. ... Pretty shameful display of one-sided anti-american bias by CSPAN this morning. ... Thanks for listening." (Note: this is a reply to several people who were asking about the email mentioned in post #6)
- #31; "The host was pretty mad about my email and talked about how the next segment will present the opposite view; The host just stated: Tim Carney is coming up to present another point of view. ... ON a personal note, the host DID pronounce my name correctly...which is a hardship for a lot of people. HA" (Note: regarding the email in post #19)
- #34; "They only want to believe if the Iraq Report is from them."
- #55; "One would think/hope that the other candidates would attack Steponallofus since he used to work for the Clintons, clearly his questions today will reflect his favoratism towards her. Sounds like the first question did just that."
- #56; "Consistently correcting Wallace as well. Rove knows his stuff and he wont play their liberal game."
- #67; "HA! Best line of the day so far, when Wallace starts criticizing Rove on his comments on dems cutting and running. Rove to Wallace: ... 'I brought a copy of my speech with me, since Im sure you never read it'! ... I HEART KARL ROVE."
- #227; "Rove to Gregory on the CIA leak investigation: ... Rove doesnt view himself as a confirming source (neither do I, btw). Saying 'You heard that to' is not confirmation. ... Gregory actually admits that Fitzy didnt file any charges against Rove (WOW, shocker of shockers). ... Rove saying he was never a target; discusses Armitage as the real leaker. Says he (Rove) does not think Val is owed an apology. Talks about the false allegations made by Joe Wilson and that Joe is the big liar in all of this (although he doesnt say it that way). Talks about how joe CONFIRMED the fact that the IRaqis were trying to get Niger to sell them yellow cake. David Gregorys response: SILENCE."
Second Place Chuck54 - running commentary on the shows with excellent insight, pointed analysis and biting humor, plus a rant for the ages.
- #27 a great Ramirez cartoon of Karl Rove riding off into the sunset
- #51; "If this were a boxing match it would be called during the introductions. ... Gregory? vs. Rove. ... no contest"
- #54; "Rove is not letting Gregory get away with anything. Calling him on every misstatement."
- #57; "MTP is a must see. Rove is rattling figures off w/o notes and David is a bit stunned. ... Rove is refusing to be interrupted by David. This is great theater. ... No contest here."
- #100; "The Republicans have a great campaign ad if they just run Roves points about Hillary he just made to Gregory."
- #135; "On MTP Gregory had the KOS talking points down pretty well. He was reading from their fax looked like. ... On the Cheney piece from 1994 the KOS dummies think they have the 'smoking gun' phrases for NOT entering Baghdad. ... Rove rightfully told him by 2003 the world had changed and MOST people recognized this. I wish Rove had said 'he probably would have said the same thing on 9/10/01 and so would I'."
- #202; "Karl just slapped Chris about his speech which he is sure Chris never read. ... Chris is still rubbing that mark, but it will be hard to remove."
- #223; "Does Chris really think that Karl Rove is obligated to give answers to the MSM that he will not give to Leahy and Waxman. ... Karl is giving Chris a lesson on the Constitution and Chris is looking like an idiot with this line of questioning. ... Chris may be down for the count. Nah, he came back after the break but looks a bit sheepish."
- #269; "I watched Rove slap Gregory around a bit, watched him match wits with Chris Wallace (absolutely no contest there) and am now watching FTN with Schieffer. ... Bob Schieffer is really the worst interviewer. Rove is masterful with old Bob and is actually being a bit respectful to all the stupid insinuations and questions. ... I just wish old Timmy had been around this morning instead of Gregory. Rove would have toyed with him unmercifully and Timmy would still be shaking his head, checking to see if he still had his job, and wondering just what in hell had happened."
- #282; "Funny. Schieffer just called Karl Rove Senator Rove while talking to McCain. He immediately corrected himself."
- #333; "'HAR! It took 269 posts before someone brought up Puprl-faced Rage Bob.' ... Heh, he was really raging in his closing comments about the White House was going to write the September report. ... I emailed him (no answer so far) and asked him if he knew the legislation concerning this report required the White House to write it? ... He really is pathetic and needs to take a long, extended vacation. Oh yeah, Bill Moyers and a few more I could name, need to go with him. Their 15 minutes of fame are long, long over." (Note: reply to Alas Babylon!'s post #323)
- #382; "I still dont know why I watch that Scheiffer crap but must be a glutton for punishment. ... I think its the same reason I watch Cafferty with Blitz. I am within their age range, am very, very happy with my retired life, and just wonder what two such bitter people did to ruin their lives. .. I have never been happier to see two people so bitter. They deserve their fate. Maybe they should have invested better and gotten out before they became such pitiful excuses for 'newsmen'. ... <rant off"
First Place rodguy911 - Great commentary on both the shows and posts by others, pointing out great posts by others and contributing in both ongoing conversations as well as unique posts. A tour de force!
- #49; "Absolutely Mainepatsfan!! ... The only worry I have about the Petraeus Report is how it will be spun by the drivers-by. ... Once again it will fall on us to ge the truth out as the dems-- bent on defeat will lie their sorry asses offff about just how effective the surge is, has been, and will be. ... Sad thing for the dems is that we are always ready and willing to take them on and bounce them off the wall yet again." (Note: reply to mainepatsfan's post #33)
- #68; "Just when I think your nuggets cant get any better....they do!! ... 'Jack Bauer wont be driving a prius' should be a billboardwaaay tooo good!!! ... The global warming nerds need to be recognized for what they are. ... Just more dem talking point lemmings IMHO. ... I just did a trip with a guy who accompanied some of the worlds smartest scientists to both polar poles, North and South. ... Those that would level with him suggest that until core samples of the earth (that cannot even be performed yet)are thoroughly analyzed its near impossible to tell whether or not we are in a major cooling or warming cycle since these cycles are measured in time sequences of hundreds of thousands of years at best. ... The rest of the claims IMHO are all BS at best."
- #78; "Exactly you have their number! As soon as DBM traction on Iraq goes away they will simply turn to some other contrived emergency." (Note: reply to mainepatsfan's post #60)
- #82; "'Rove is evil" is nothing more than Lemming brainswahing by the DBM with a modicum of success. Any thinking person sees right through it." (Note: reply to Bahbah's post #61)
- #87; "Wont help, all the Clintonista infiltration of the DBM in the world will not save Bubbas wench. Her negatives will ultimately sink her (people just dont dislike her, they hate her) and unless they are lied about shortly before the election (in a big way) they will sink her."
- #95; "I thought I had a handle on who the Dems VP would be but now I don't. ... At first Oblama looked like a slam dunk but now after he has dared to go after the queen he is probably out. ... Besides what does he bring to the table--dems already own Illinois and the black vote, what good is he. ... Richardson keeps self-destructing so I don't know what they might have in mind. ... Maybe bubba will be her VP."
- #122; "I can believe it, Rove eats these Drivers- by phonies like candy, they are all guessing he knows big difference."
- #137; "Thank God for David Horowitz, Ann Coulter and others who defend conservative principles to College students and are not afraid to take them on. ... I travel near UNC Wilmington often and some of the stories I hear are so sad,I hope they are not true."
- #172; "I totally agree, but problem is with Oblama he just keeps coming back over and over,-he is the typical vacuous dem but that doesn't count in their party. 'Stupid' is actually a "plus" in dem/rat circles. Easier to control. ... His popularity has spilled over into the Hollywood elite and into many other circles of easy to fool voters. ... Biggest thing to me is that visions of Bubba and Barry campaigning together would be of rock star magnitude and would drive the msm/dbm crazy. The clintonistas will have a hard time ignoring all that. Even so they will still lose only get a little closer."
- #205; "Poor Neanderthal Dave, all his Daily Kos talking points are being spun so fast by Rove he cant keep up."
- #211; "Wont work she is toast, if you are a prominent woman politico and your two most noticeable traits are that you might be gay or that you surely are a B itch, you are toast."
- #213; "Rove is handling Chris Wallace just as well as he handled David Gregory. ... Its amazing, stunning really, that Chris and David are asking many, many of the same questions. ... ...with the same accusatory tone I might add."
- #218; "Unfortunately, other than talk radio, Roves appearance will be well hidden by the msm.(or spun so wildly you will think it was another interview)"
- #229; "Poor Gregory with every question he asks Rove you can see him sinking (just a little deeper) into the quick sand he has stepped into."
- #331; "We often wind up here with circuitous arguments vis a vi the dems. ... What they wind up all revolving to is that the dems lie so often its become a way of political life. ... When you are a presidential candidate and nearly everything of import you run on is a lie when do they pay the piper, if ever?"
- #370; "Heres a good one about author Jack Cashills new book on how the Clintonistas took down Kurt Weldon. Youll find it here: ... http://www.abledangerblog.com Starting Monday WND will do a four part series on what happened."
