How We Won the Mainstream
The Washington Post ^ | August 11, 2007 | Susan Gardner and Markos Moulitsas

Posted on 08/12/2007 10:51:53 AM PDT by neverdem

Three years ago things looked bleak for the Democratic Party. George Bush had just won a second term while his party consolidated its grip on Congress. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay crowed about a "permanent Republican majority," and Beltway Democrats acquiesced as Republicans built their unchallenged (and lawless) unitary executive.

Democrats appeared to be on the run, disorganized and demoralized. But outside of Washington there was hope. Grass-roots Democratic activists had seen the future of our politics in Howard Dean -- plain-spoken and unapologetic. His presidential candidacy had come up short, but its fresh, optimistic approach -- predicated on offering clear contrasts between the two parties -- was poised to redefine the party.

Dean was elected chairman of the Democratic Party despite predictions of electoral doom by the usual suspects in Washington, including the Democratic Leadership Council. In the House, Democrats chose Nancy Pelosi to lead them over current DLC Chairman Harold Ford, who warned of disaster if Pelosi won. Calling her a "throwback" who practiced a "destructive and obstructive" style of politics, Ford proclaimed, "I don't think Nancy Pelosi's kind of politics is what's needed right now." Today, Nancy Pelosi is the first female speaker of the House.

Ford, like his fellow Washington insiders, grossly misunderstood the American electorate. He and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley continue to do so [" Our Chance to Capture the Center," op-ed, Aug. 7]. Convinced that this is fundamentally a conservative nation, Ford demanded that Democrats unceasingly inch toward the right or risk electoral irrelevance. As then-DLC official Ed Kilgore put it in 2005, "If we put a gun to everybody's head in the country and make them pick sides, we're not likely to win." But we who live outside the D.C. bubble -- in all 50 states, in counties blue and red...

How We Won the Mainstream

Does delusion have any limits? Those two folks from Daily Kos are "clinically" delusional to think that they won the mainstream America with their "Hate America" and "communist" ideology. They managed to control the democrat party in particular the leadership but no way on earth the main stream American people will accept these hateful lunatics.

I just saw him in some Sunday talk show, and this Markos character is dumber than the last goat in the herd to cross the road. You know, the one that gets hit by the car.

I’ve seen slate blackboards sharper than this guy.

Does delusion have any limits?

Not in the democrat party, it wouldn’t be fair to the one or two sane people left in it.

Oh, and the results of Nancy Pelosi’s run as Speaker of the House are yet to be determined, Ford’s prediction could well come true.

I wasn't taking notes during Meet The Press, but I believe David Gregory (while talking to Markos) made the claim that the Democrat Base is now mainstream America.

I think they are in for a rude awakening. Or else we are well are truly doomed.

Why does moulitsas contantly conceal his background?

Seems this is just an advertising solicitation for payola for the KOSsacks.

Is payola illegal in the polotical context?

Mainstream, yeah. The YearlyKos convention attracted a whopping 1500 people. The rest of their membership couldn't get their moms to spring for the trip so they stayed in the basement in their underwear and surfed for porn like they always do.

What delusional KOS fails to realize is that the places where Democrats made inroads in the last election were where their candidates pretended to be moderate to conservative democrats. And they will not last long if they align themselves with the hard left socialists who are now so comfortable in their delusions that they no longer have to hide their true beliefs.

The Dems never won over the mainstream. They won a narrow victory in 06 by taking a handful of swing states and congressional districts. They did it by avoiding any big proposals of their own, just making vague references to balancing the budget and fighting a “smarter war” in Iraq. Their candidates procaimed themselves to be pro-gun moderates. Mostly people were just sick of the fat, dumb and happy Pub leadership.

Now after a less than a year in power, Pelosi and Reid have lower approval ratings than Bush. And they have accompished nothing. The only thing they have going for them is the Pubs seem to have learned nothing from their defeat either.

‘we championed Ned Lamont’s victorious primary challenge’..........Yes, they are delusional. The Kos sees this as a positive. Joe Lieberman still won while running as an Independent. Let’s let them think that the mainstream is really comprised of far-leftists. We CAN win in 2008!

KOS is a pay for praise enterprise.

They are a far left group. WAAAAAY left.

The fact remains the USA is and will remain a conservative nation.

This article is 100% about big lie theory, however it is dependent on NOBODY BEING ALLOWED TO CONTRADICT IT.

This artile is a direct intentional lie in order to give cover to the MSM to push the fiction the world is leftist. Remember they said the same manure when FNC came on air. CNN is now only useful as a USAtoday style distributor.

The only mainstream they have is the media. And more and more people are waking up to that.

EXACTLY, from Juan Williams to the Koz Boyz think that somehow one election has shifted the political leanings of the entire country.

And this a GOOD thing, let them keep talking, let them keep passing wacky legislation and appearing at Gays only forums to field questions, keep talking libs, just keep talking.

Hmm running away talking about Iraq, pretending to be “Me Too” Republican lite and screaming about “corruption” was the Democrats mantra in 2006. Don’t see anything there that came out of the Kosie boy’s mouth.

They're honest. The DLC wasn't. Most Americans know there's no such thing as a "moderate." Markos Moulitsas gets it.

How did they win it? Through lies, deceit, distortions, fabrications and allegations. It’s a temporary thing. A last gasp. A bright flare that’ll fade into a glimmer and then nothingness.
