A former San Bruno high school band teacher was sentenced today to a year in San Mateo County jail after pleading no contest to having sex with a 17-year-old female student.
Adam Albrecht, 28, could have been sentenced to as much as 16 months in state prison under a plea deal reached with prosecutors last month.
Judge John Grandsaert of San Mateo County Superior Court also sentenced Albrecht to three years' probation.
Albrecht taught band, choir and orchestra at Capuchino High School before he resigned this summer once an investigation into his relationship with the student began. He apologized today for his conduct.
The former teacher was accused of having a consensual relationship with the girl that lasted from February until after she turned 18 in May. The two met through the school band, attorneys in the case said.
"This was a teacher who was about 10 years older than the victim," Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Baum said. "He was the adult in the situation, and it was his responsibility not to act criminally."
Albrecht pleaded no contest in July to one count each of oral copulation with a minor and unlawful sexual intercourse. He also pleaded to a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for providing the girl with alcohol and marijuana. He had originally faced 32 felony counts.
The girl's mother discovered the relationship after she found multiple calls and text messages between her daughter and Albrecht on her cell phone bill, authorities said.

First thing that pops into my mind when I see him..... “Get a haircut!”
Man, he got off light, imho.
He’s not gonna do well in lockup, methinks.
His eyes look bloodshot.
17 is considered an adult in Texas I believe.
He looks like a garden gnome.
Although...he was the teacher...bad move.
It’s all a big misunderstanding. He just wanted her to play his flute.
Looks like he’s been crying.
susie
**snort** “That girl prolly thought she died ‘n’ went to heaven!”

It is, unless there is a teacher-student relationship.
Dreadlocks gone, Portsmouth inmate cries foul over forced haircut
That’s one WEIRD lookin’ dude!
It’s amazing how things have changed in the last 20 years or so...
When I was in HS...the asst. band director was having an affair (if you can call it that) with a 15 year old female classmate of mine...everyone knew it. However, to avoid public humiliation of the “girl” it was all swept under the rug...the police were never involved. The band directors wife left him, however.
Several years later the guy did the same thing...AGAIN...this time he was fired, yet AGAIN the police were never involved.
This sort of stuff was pervasive at my HS...the water polo coach was having sex with a different cheerleader a year...blah blah blah...all kept quiet.
I have a feeling that many of us who were students during a period in which such relationships were well known but nothing done about it...are now taking action when our children our in HS.
Kids go to school to learn not to be prey for sexual predators.
Is that you, Sean Penn?
At least the judge won’t let him off because he is too preety to go to jail.
You think he could have waited the 3 months and been legal.
Considering the mary-jo and alcohol he is probably a liberal hippie who never grew you.
Would anyone believe keyboard malfunction???
preety —> pretty
grew you —> grew up
And it’s only 7:00....
