A discussion thread about Fred vs Duncan
It is but I think if Duncan was given a chance to speak at debates and other areas, he would give us more more charismatic discussions.
Absolutely!
BTW, how’s the wifey-poo? Haven’t seen her around much.
Undecided, but leaning toward Thompson. I am concerned about his thin record, but with Reagan we only had his speeches and his tenure as California governor. Rhetorical skills are essential for a conservative president to be successful. Given the “squishy middle”, conservative policy has to be sold. Even when he is right, GWB is rhetorically challenged. He has been diminished as President because of it. Whatever his flaws, Fred is a communicator. Also, he is better by far than any possible Democrat candidate.
Amen!!!!!
Hunter’s history isn’t as good as it has been touted, either. It’s not “BAD” in any way, but he’s not the stellar perfect Congresscritter he is portrayed to be.
Now we're getting into "if turnips were horses, beggars would ride" territory.
I just don't think he's going anywhere but I would be happy to be wrong.
Fred is weaker than Hunter on the issues I care most about, but he’s still better than any of the other options. I’m for Hunter as long as he’s in the race. If Fred gets the nomination I’ll gladly vote for him in the general election—can’t say that about the other Republican candidates(I may have vote for one of them in the general but I won’t be particularly happy about it.)

Whenever I talk to my friends about candidates I talk about Duncan first, always. However, I do believe Fred is destined for the nom. Duncan would make a great secretary of defense!
That's been my point, all along. I like Hunter, but I just don't like him quite as much as I like Fred. I think the case for Hunter is consistently overstated, and whenever someone puts up information suggesting that Hunter's got some problems, the Duncanists are all over them like white on rice, suggesting that you're just not really patriotic or that you're a RINO if you don't like their candidate.
The points used to tout Duncan Hunter don't hold the stellar appeal for me that Duncanistas seem to think they should. I'm not particularly inclined to give a candidate special preference just because they were in the military - so his military service isn't a selling point. I don't believe that free trade is a secret plan to sell us out to the New World Order, so reflexive voting against Latin American free trade agreements, even with capitalistic allies like Chile, doesn't put Hunter across the line either. Hunter is definitely not a small-government superhero, either, if his record in the Congress of voting for porkbarrel expenditures (i.e. NON-military related) is any indication. If Hunter's political experience were applied to any other candidate, I suspect the Duncanistas would attack that candidate for being a career politician whose become part of the problem, rather than part of the solution - but since it's Duncan, it's okay to sit in Congress for 26 years on the taxpayers' tab.
So yes, Duncan Hunter is a GOOD candidate. He's got definite conservative credentials, and I find him to be an appealing candidate. But, he's got his problems too, and he's not the Second Coming like a lot of folks on here sound like they want him to be.
“Victoria Toenseng as AG”
How about on the SCOTUS?
Something I haven’t seen anybody talk about is...what is the possibility of Hunter delivering California wherever he is?
On the other thread, A Hunter fan is excited that Hunter is polling at 11% [in California only—he’s @ 2% nationwide, I believe]. I would think he’d have to get considerably above 11% to “deliver” the state.
That’s kind of what I was thinking.
Well, there’s enough time. The Hunter campaign better get busy, though.
He seems to lack the charisma or energy of a front runner. But after 8 years he should be polished enough to take the reins.
I’m sorry, I see no calls for censorship here. You need to distinguish between people asking you to give it a rest and people forcing you to give it a rest.
