LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo says he takes responsibility for a 2004 accident in which his wife damaged a city-owned vehicle while driving with a suspended license.
Delgadillo told reporters at a news conference this afternoon that he realizes he should have spoken up earlier. He said "That was a mistake." He says he mishandled the situation and he apologizes.
Delgadillo's wife's license had been suspended from July 2004 to March 2007 after she was involved in an accident and could not show proof of insurance.
Delgadillo said neither he nor his wife realized her license had been suspended at the time of the accident.
KABC TV reports Delgadillo says he's reimbursing the city for repairs to the vehicle.
Earlier this month, Delgadillo filed a petition questioning whether Sheriff Lee Baca should be held in contempt of court for abruptly releasing Paris Hilton from jail early. Hilton was sentenced after failing a sobriety test and violating her probation twice by driving on a suspended license.
You're just jealous because YOU LIVE IN LA!
Even if Delgadillo had been driving himself, why should the repair be paid for by taxpayers? I’d like to know if it’s the city’s policy to pay for car damage that’s the fault of the driver. If so, it’s time to change that policy.
And I’m with you: Delgadillo must have lied thru his teeth on the accident report. I’d love to see if someone can dig it up.

Seems to be a problem in California, do they not notify these people. /sarc on
I would say the good old sheriff is playing a game of get even. He is a bottom feeder. But you know the attorneys wife knew she had been suspended.
LOL! You're a proud troll, eh? Okey dokey.
LOL, seems as if Delgadillo is saying no.
Someone leaked this out and the timing is at least interesting.
It seems like this all do, from the White House on down.
And you are a PROUD Angelino.
How dare you inflict this thread with photos of those two.
You must be from up North a spell, ya Twinkie.
Nah, I'm from the Inland Empire.
Typical.
He tried to hide this all along....He’s a scum bag turd brain.
I agree. Until he got caught, there was no reason for him to pay. It would be interesting to find out what he wrote on that accident report when he turned the car in?
And to say he and his wife did not know she was suspended from driving, I have a very hard time in believing that?
It does smell doesn't it, since 99.9999% of the time all you need to do is show up in court with proof of insurance and the charge is dropped.
Hey, he’s government employee. Since he’s taken responsibility, this obviously rates a raise, government pension and medical benifits increase, and a ticket to run for mayor.
Does she get the same sentence as Paris Hilton?
Rehab is in order.
You play to win I see.
Sadly, I believe you are absolutely correct in your prediction, Dragnet.
