L.A. City attorney takes responsibility for wife's accident in city-owned vehicle

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo says he takes responsibility for a 2004 accident in which his wife damaged a city-owned vehicle while driving with a suspended license.

Delgadillo told reporters at a news conference this afternoon that he realizes he should have spoken up earlier. He said "That was a mistake." He says he mishandled the situation and he apologizes.

Delgadillo's wife's license had been suspended from July 2004 to March 2007 after she was involved in an accident and could not show proof of insurance.

Delgadillo said neither he nor his wife realized her license had been suspended at the time of the accident.

KABC TV reports Delgadillo says he's reimbursing the city for repairs to the vehicle.

Earlier this month, Delgadillo filed a petition questioning whether Sheriff Lee Baca should be held in contempt of court for abruptly releasing Paris Hilton from jail early. Hilton was sentenced after failing a sobriety test and violating her probation twice by driving on a suspended license.

BS. Put him in the cell next to Paris Hilton.

It's one of those deals where he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and he's saying "well in that case, okay, I'm sorry, no really, I am, really..."

I suspect, since the city car was damaged, that an accident report was filled out. I also suspect that his wife was not only not driving with a valid license, but that she was not authorized to drive the car in the first place. Most, if not all, government issued vehicles are for use by government employees only and are not for any kind of personal use.

My guess is that Mr. Delgadillo may have filed a false accident report. He may have claimed he was driving and submitted the report to the city for repair, but that somehow the cat got out of the bag.

In light of the Nifong problem, this should be interesting. At least in this case the only people who got screwed were the taxpayers of the City of Los Angeles and IMO, the people of the City of Los Angeles, deserve to be screwed.

Never pretended to be one.

You elected Tony Villarr as your Mayor. You get what you deserve.

So who brings charges against a city attorney for filing an insurance claim to which the Delgadillo’s were not entitled?

Isn’t that *stealing*?

Liar. I did not vote for him, nor did I elect him.

Go crawl back under your rock.

Good question. I wonder if we can recall the City Attorney.

It sure is stealing.

Liar. I did not vote for him, nor did I elect him.

Ahhh, but you did.

"You" was meant to refer to "the people of the City of Los Angeles".

And the People of the City of Los Angeles deserve the leadership they have. In a democracy you get the government you ask for. In a democracy you get the government you deserve.

Go crawl back under your rock.

A class act you are not.

What. You don't feel that you deserve the stench of the rock you crawled out from under? After all using your logic, you elected to live under your rock.

Now begone Troll.

Almost 3 years of license suspension for no proof of insurance?

Once again we're not getting the whole story here.
