If the President had said what Hunter just said, there would be no issue about the firings today. None.

It’s some pretty basic stuff but he’s right on target.

He pointed out that Clinton fired some 90 prosecutors and the media didn’t make any noise over it. When asked why Bush fired them in the middle of his term, Hunter replied “who cares when he fired them?”. It’s the president’s prerogative etc.

Clinton firing the Prosecutors in the beginning of his term is precisely why his action were political. He had absolutely NO reason or justification to do so except to surround him self with sycophantic toddies who would not prosecute him or his friends. He did not examine their performance at all.

Not totally true.

At the time of the firings, Clinton was the subject of an investigation by the US attorneys office that handled Arkansas.

After firing all the attorneys, that investigation was stopped. He had a reason, he was looking at a criminal investigation. He saw their preformance and was scared by the possible results.

Pissant,
Why does everyone use the excuse of Bill Clinton fired them at the beginning. I have heard this everywhere. Is this something that most Presidents do? I know that media likes to find reasons to make President Bush look bad, but this arguement is used almost everytime.
Thanks.

Richard Clark, Ambassador Joseph Wilson and George Tenant are three good arguments for a new administration immediately clearing the decks.

May I add, serving at the pleasure of the President? Meaning he can dismiss them at his pleasure as well.

If only the GOP was representative of Duncan Hunter. Unfortunately, there are not many Hunters in the GOP and that has been the problem. We need this man for President.

Yes, all modern presidents do this.

Clinton did it, but so did Reagan, and so did George W Bush. Poppy 41 fired almost all of them - I think he retained three or four. All at the beginning of their terms.

It is highly unusual for a president to fire a group of his own US Attorneys during the middle of a term. But unusual does not mean improper.

There was nothing wrong with the firings, although Gonzales has gone out of his way to look like there was, with his desperate and pathetic attempts to appear out of the loop. He has created a genuine scandal out of nothing.

LOL. You are so right. Everytime he is in front of the TV, he just looks guilty. I wonder why he cant’ handle a bit of heat. Goodness even I have to put up with that on occasion. You just have to keep the principles and fight for what is right no matter what the scale.
