Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Saturday used news of a plot to blow up a John F. Kennedy International Airport jet fuel line as another example of why he should be elected president.
Giuliani told a crowd of 700 gathered at a Broward County Republican fundraiser that Democrats ignore the Islamic terrorist threat and that he is the Republican candidate best capable of handling it.
"I've had the most experience dealing with terrorism," Giuliani said, citing his experience as a federal prosecutor and later as mayor of New York City, where he served during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
"There are some very good people on the Republican side that understand terrorism, I do not find too many on the Democratic side that do, but I think of the people that do, I understand it the best and can keep the country focused on being on offense," Giuliani said.
Early in his nearly 30-minute speech, Giuliani mentioned the arrests of men who authorities say were part of a Muslim terrorist cell. He later held a press conference to make a statement about the alleged plot.
"Today's arrests remind us that we're at war," Giuliani said. "It should remind us that the terrorists are at war with us, both overseas and here in the United States."
He said it should not be a political issue, but rather a reality the country has to live with.
"We need things like the Patriot Act, we need things like electronic surveillance. It has to be legal, but we need it. We need things like interrogation techniques to get information from people. Legal again, but it has to be aggressive," Giuliani said. "These are the things that keep us safe in a world in which there are more than a few people organized around Islamic terrorists who want to harm us and kill us."
Earlier, he told the crowd to watch Sunday night's Democratic presidential candidate debate and see if the words "Islamic terrorist" are mentioned. He said they weren't during the first debate.
"I want to see tomorrow night if you hear them utter those words, because if you do, I want you to put a little check mark next to my name and give me credit for it because I've been criticizing them for weeks for not mentioning the words 'Islamic terrorist,"' he said.
Actually, while I'd choose Rudy over Gilmore any day, Jim Gilmore can make that claim as well or better than Rudy.
He dealt with the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon and chaired the Commission on Domestic Terrorism.
Exactly, he did nothing to stop the terrorists, no body could have, all he dealt with was the aftermath of a tragedy.
Could not read this without a barf alert.
“okay, who running for President has had more experience in dealing with terrorist??”
WHo put NYC’s command bunker in the WTC, which had already been attacked?
Rudy.
Worth repeating. Some forget there were millions in NYC that day and not only were there bodies to deal with but bridges and tunnels to control, all of the financial district to evacuate and shock and panic everywhere. One would have to understand NYC to recognize the monumental task Rudy faced. Wall Street was reopened in days restoring confidence and calm to NY and the nation. I don't care how much folks hate Rudy but his management skills were clearly extraordinary. I know I'll be flamed--but i witnessed it up close and personal. Not many mayors I know of who could have accomplished what Rudy did.
His response to that attack was to blame the freaking gun . . . and to use the incident as a prop in his anti-gun crusade.
"Tough on terrorism," my @ss.
Delusional!
LOL!!
ROTFLMAO!!
The fact that he has appeared in public dressed as a woman must mean we all need to cross dress.
I think some here allow their politics to override reality, the same thing we accuse the Democrats of daily.
Reject Rudy on his policies and social views as they pertain to the party’s planks, completely understood. Make light of what he accomplished on possibly the most fateful day in our nation’s history and the soon after because of that is utterly mindless and blind.
Not only that, but several of the plotters were illegal aliens who were pulled over many times for traffic stops, but did not have their status reported to the INS because the stops happened in sanctuary cities - a policy Rudy kept in place for NYC despite a federal court order to stop it.
So this one blows right up in his face.
What exactly did he accomplish at that time?
You guys have got to see this one.
Such extravagant, exquisite arrogance could only come from a liberal.
Duncan Hunter (who I'm not voting for)? Vietnam war hero. One of only two or three congressmen with a son/daughter in Iraq. Chairman of the house armed services committee for years. Representative of one of the biggest military districts in the country.
What the hell did Giuliani do? Give a few feel-good speeches? That's experience?
Kind of like Algore inventing the internet.
Yes, Rooty Toot is delusional!
I agree 100%. People have very short memories. I disagree with Rudy on many things, but getting the world's largest city back on its feet so quickly was nothing short of a miracle. The speedy cooperation of all the city's agencies and the Federal Government's bureaus didn't happen by accident...it was Rudy's leadership.
You should add to that...
I dated my 9 yr old cousin when I was 11.
