Terrorists: Ceasefire talk means U.S. defeat in Iraq

TEL AVIV – Washington's announcement of talks with Iraqi militants about a cease-fire arrangement is a "big victory" for the insurgency and demonstrates the U.S. now recognizes the legitimacy of so-called terror groups, Palestinian terrorist leaders told WND.

In a briefing with reporters earlier today, Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno said U.S. commanders at all levels are being empowered to reach out for talks with militants, tribes, religious leaders and others, including insurgents and sectarian rivals.

"We are talking about cease-fires, and maybe signing some things that say they won't conduct operations against the government of Iraq or against coalition forces," Odierno told reporters in a video conference from Baghdad.

Reacting to Odierno's announcement, Muhammad Abdel-El, spokesman and a leader of the Popular Resistance Committees terror group, called truce talks with insurgents "a big victory for the resistance."

Hope I'm wrong, but the terrorists may be right.

In Viet Nam when the VC and NVA were almost whipped they would call a cease-fire then regroup, re-arm, re-supply their troops, then they were good to fight for another 6 months.

I didn’t even read the entire article and that was my exact thought.

This probably is one small group that looks to us like they would rather switch than fight (it’s common for individual tribes to switch allegiances to align with a stronger partner) and all that remains is the details.

funny you should ask - the arab mindset is a tad different from ours. It’s when you finally sign a contract with them that they are ready to start negotiating (much to the confoundment of too many American businesses who think a signed contract is reason to celebrate a sale - only to discover that they are now going to get seriously fleeced just to keep the contract alive)

I know of one case when agreement was, after months of talks, finally hammered out one day and the next day the arab calmly walked into the room and announced that Allah had told him it was a bad deal and they would have to start over. How would you handle that one???

The truth is that they can’t be trusted in the sense that we “trust.” You can only trust that, day to day, they will do whatever they think is to their immediate advantage regardless of any past deals or alliances.

To them, a contract with an unbeliever can be broken .

"Terrorists: Ceasefire talk means U.S. defeat in Iraq"

I think they're referring to the Democrats in the U.S. Congress?

Does this mean that World Net Daily "recognizes the legitimacy of so-called terror groups" because they talked directly to them?

I see this 180 degrees the other way IF (and that’s a big IF) we are only talking to the Iraqi based folks. This is the strategy that Patreaus has articulated and that several others talked about earlier. Separate the “Iraqi insurgents” (and particularly the ethnic groups represented by the “sheiks”) from Al Qaeda. This is what is working BIG TIME in Al Anbar.

The “Iragi insurgents” (read native Iraqis) are killing the 70% of the fighters who are foreign born Al Qaeda soldiers.

I like this strategy... if I’ve got this right.

What a stupid analysis. We are not negotiating with the terrorists. The Sunni Arabs who “used” to support the terrorists have decided not to fight us anymore and they are asking for a cease fire because they want to enter the political process. Go and read all the latest articles about the Sunni Arabs fighting the terrorists in what used to be “shelter and safe heaven” for them. This is more bad new for the terrorists.

Sad isn’t it! I cannot believe how wrong is the analysis in this article, it is totally opposite to what this article is saying as I indicated in the previous post.

I don't recognize this guy. Could he be a misdirection or a rogue Dem?

Anybody know anything about this General?

Looks like the General isn’t too confident that the “Surge” will work, as he is quoted in the Huffington Post back in January.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/01/07/no-2-us-commander-in-ira_n_38040.html

Looking at his bio, it goes from his education and military training in 1976 to his appointment at Ft. Hood in 1991.

I wonder why there are scant records in between.

Let us say that he was cautious and that was back in January before the Surge has begun. It is only today that the numbers of troops required for the surge has been completed. The biggest surprise of the Surge is that the terrorists have lost Anabr province as their homes base and now they are losing Diyala and Baghdad. The Sunnis Arab are revolting fiercely against Al Qaeda, it is over for the terrorists.

I hope we have enough sense to step up the pressure and increase air support.

If we have them on the run, let’s run them into the ground!

They’re talking about the local Sunni insurgents. They’ve finally figured out that a pluralistic democracy and freedom are actually good things for them. That and all the newfound oil reseves they want to get at in Anbar. Saddams dead, there’s oil under their feet; they’re movin’ on.

If we don’t negotiate with them over there, we’ll have to negotiate with them over here.
