We have discussed this on FR before and yeah the teachers needed to be prepared and armed but kids do too. They need strong leaders that can give them cues on what to do. IMO

12 miles is so far outside the blast radius, it wouldn’t have mussed your hair.

A responsible person with a weapon could of killed the teacher with the fake gun if the teachers went that far.

Good point. So do we keep guns off campus or get rid of stupid, idiotic so-called "teachers"?

(I remember being amused at the thought that covering over heads under our desks would somehow help us in the event of a Russian ICBM attack).

I went to school in CA from K-5 and I believed them. I thought I would be safe from a nuclear attack if I put my head under the desk and covered my ears and eyes.

Stupid, yes, but I trusted my teachers.

The parents need to hold a little TRAINING SESSION for these idiot “teachers” of their own......show up at school with guns in holsters....to PROTECT their children!

OMG! Poor judgement? How about NO JUDGEMENT!!! After what just happened at Virginia Tech?! I think I would kick someone’s *ss!

On Thursday, the last night of the outing, the staff played a prank on the kids, convincing them there was a gunman on the loose.

A teacher wearing a hooded sweatshirt pulled on a locked door, pretending to be a suspicious subject in the area.

The students were told to lie on the floor or crawl underneath tables and keep quiet. The lights went out, and about 20 kids started to cry, 11-year-old Shay Naylor said. Some held hands and shook.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ “ Shay said Saturday afternoon as she recounted the incident. “At first I thought I was going to die. We flipped out. (A teacher) told us, ‘We just got a call that there’s been a random shooting.’ I was freaked out. I thought it was serious.”

Do you have a link to one of the discussions, Cindy? I would read it.

With the climate as it is now, I think the more info available, the better.

The reason for that was because if you were lucky enough to be on the outer edges of the ICBM attack then you wouldn’t be incinerated, and possibly survive if you could avoid the mass amount of debris that would be hurtled.

Just training the kids to submit to the arbitrary demands of authorities. Terrorizing children, for the children. How many of these teachers were/still are schoolyard bullies? No wonder the Bible was kicked out of schools... The phrases “by their fruits ye shall know them”, or “the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel” would clue in all the victims.

The occasion reminds me of a photo that was posted here long ago, of a young teenage girl in a white blouse and green plaid dress firing away with a .50 cal. She was obviously having a blast. She looked Irish.

Do you know where that picture is posted?

I have mixed feelings on how much burdon we give to children.
They shouldnt be coddled but they shouldt be expected to be adults either.

At anyrate, what these teachers are doing is teaching them to be victims

They went overboard. I agree. If I was a parent of one of the students I would be upset too. If kids know just like fire drills that we do this just in case they won’t be scared but prepared.

Something is strange here, I live just outside of Murfreesboro and have not heard anything about this. It hasn’t been in the local papers and I don’t remember seeing it on the local News on TV even though I’ve missed some of it but a Charlotte paper runs the story and a new freeper by just a few days from out in Oklahoma posts the article.

Yeah....I always wondered about that too.....a DESK is going to protect ME? From a nuclear blast? I just did the drill to pacify the teacher.

The mock attack Thursday night was intended as a learning experience and lasted five minutes during the weeklong trip to a state park,...

It could be worse, it could have been a Conservative promoting history via the ol' West and handing out cap guns to the children in promotion of self defense with a touch of gun safety with it.

Oh the horrors that would create.
