CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Fifty years ago [Cho] probably would have ended up, more likely, in a state mental hospital, than in a state university.

But from the pictures we’ve just seen, the kind of iconic photograph of the way he was methodical in everything he did, the one thing you can say psychiatrically speaking, is he was not as schizophrenic — that we colloquially think of as delusional or hallucinating. This is a man who planned it out. This was a very methodical — schizophrenics are quite disorganized. He wasn’t. He was too organized.

That is simply untrue. Centerville is far enough out to be about a 50/50 proposition politically. It's certainly nowhere near as liberal as, say, Alexandria, Falls Church, or Prince George's County across the Potomac in Maryland.

Cho may (or may not) have held radical leftist beliefs, but throwing rocks at the suburban town where he grew up is misguided.

Seeing as Krauthammer is a psychiatrist, he knows of what he speaks. But if not a schizophrenic, there is a diagnosis in DSMIV for Cho, most likely in the personality disorders rather than psychoses

Continuing medical training during his rehabilitation, he earned an M.D. from Harvard University's medical school in 1975, and worked as a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital.

From 1975-1978, Krauthammer was a Resident and then a Chief Resident in Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital. During this time he and a colleague identified a form of mania separate from bipolar disorder which they named "secondary mania"[3] and published a second important paper.[4]
