Just saw Bill Hemmer with Neil show a preview.
Thompson said he was diagnosed with the "good" type of lymphoma a few years ago and wanted to get the info out sooner rather than later. Neil surmised that Thompson also wanted to gauge the response of the people.
Before long people are going to understand that he’s got a type of cancer that is more manageable than diabetes. He is very lucky in that regard but he also shared that he sympathizes with those less fortunate like Tsongas who had the aggressive type.
Were those statistics for indolent NHL?
She’s 25 years his junior. She turned 40 this past January.
Not with a man that old it won’t.
That’s a graph of improvement in survival rates among Canadian cancer patients, and it does not specify indolent NHL.
Even more impressive. Two kids, too.
He could have anywhere from 2 to 10 years left; who opened this closet door?
The news reports don't provide enough information to really estimate prognosis, except to reassure that it is indolent.
Plutarch,
Please don’t step into the operating room and announce to the Chief Surgeon what the diagnosis of the patient is.
I know a thing or two about Non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
I have an MD and a PhD in Biostatistics. I have been involved in gene expression studies of cancer patients with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma in a clinical trial with multiple branches of treatment.
Look at your chart. It’s from 1996-1998.
We are now 2007. Alot has changed.
Just 8 years ago I was involved in a study of these patients where we could not understand why 60% of these lymphoma patients responded so well to treatment with their cancer in remission and their lives back to normal and the other 40% would die miserably.
Well we found out the reason why. It’s related to genotype. And our discoveries allowed us to screen such cancer patients for modified treatments.
Although we don’t have the hard data we can have faith in FDT that he has the treatable kind, the kind that goes in remission and stays there with maybe one or two outpatient treatments in a ten-year period.
To think otherwise would be to suspect FDT of being a liar or a very disillusioned person. My money is on his honesty. He would be crazy to run if his life was ending.
Rudy opted out of the race against Hil in 2000 on account of,,,,,Cancer_____right?
As my father would say, “He’s selfish because he’s stealing her youth.” No man that does that impresses me, Quite the opposite. I just decided, I won’t be supporting him for the presidency. I’ll stick with a gentleman (Not Fred) who has a normal family and is married to a wife about his own age. : )
Not true. He has the treatable type of lymphoma. It does not affect life expectancy.
His life expectancy would be about 78+.
You don’t think a 65 year old having a 4 month old is strange?
You will be in the minority.
And besides, after he gets the nod and goes up against HRC, you’re going to have to ask yourself if you’re going to vote for someone whose husband is a perjurer, obstructionist and rapist.
Have fun sitting home on election day.
I guess women don’t get a choice in your world, huh?
I’ve a cousin whose wife is twenty years his junior. They have three kids together, a twenty-two year old, a fourteen year old and a twelve year old (I think). His wife chose him, he didn’t seek her out first. She wanted an older stable man with whom to plan her future and her family. She made a good choice because he loves her and his children completely. It happens and for a few good reasons. Besides, love is a really interesting phenomenon.
For a woman, yes. For a man, no.
A Thompson/HUnter ticket became my dream ticket with the interview today. We’ll see.
