Teetering In Tehran

Axis Of Evil: Russia says the launch of Iran's nuclear power plant will be delayed because Tehran is behind in making construction payments. Two possibilities come immediately to mind, both of them encouraging.

First, if Tehran is truly delinquent on its payments to the state-run Atomstroiexport, it's another confirmation that the regime's hold on the country has grown tenuous and that needed change could come with light prodding in the right places.

Second, it's possible that this is merely a way for Russia to save face while it backs off its aid to a rogue nation it has supported. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran's strong denial that it isn't up to date on payments lends some credibility to this theory.

Either way, the benefits accrue to the U.S., the West, the Iranian people and civilization in general. The mullah-run Iranian regime is a danger to peace and prosperity. Its end cannot arrive too soon and in fact might not be far off, according to some observers.

There is a third possiblity that isn't so pleasant to contemplate. That is the possibility that this is all a ruse on the part of the Russians and Persians to lull the west into a false sense of security.

I don't trust the Ruskies or the Persians to tell the truth in any of this

Well, I would always lean my guesses to the side of the traditional axiom: Russia makes no mistakes but the very worst.

If you use that axiom, it is pretty easy to predict what Russia will do, assuming you can figure out the most awful end result imaginable.

The Russians are considering the possibility that Iran could give a nuke to the Chechyans

Russia wants cash. If the nuke site becomes a smoking pile of rubble, Iran will not want to pay for what they don't got.

The Iranians are looking for an all risk policy on the reactor, especially for "terrorist" attacks by the US. I guess they can't even get Lloyds of London to write it. Maybe AIG will do it.

If they are not, they should be. Instead though they seem to be obsessed with restarting the Cold War and galloping back to the 1970's.

Russia may yet make good on the 'delivery' of some atomics materials.

Maybe just not exactly like they agreed to at first ........... FRegards

"Maybe AIG will do it."

Only if they can write it at reduced commission and without any contingency clauses. Or collect the annual premium and not issue a policy. If there is a claim, they can back date the coverage.
