Video shows aftermath of store owner shooting 2 robbery suspects

The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - A store owner shot two men who tried to rob him, killing one of them, in a confrontation that was partly recorded by a neighbor with a cell phone, police said.

The two men entered the North Philadelphia store at about 6:40 a.m. Thursday and announced a robbery, after which the owner and one of the men exchanged gunshots, said city police Sgt. Ron McClane.

A cell phone video shot by a nearby resident shows the aftermath outside the store, where the owner confronted one of the wounded robbers, police said. The video shows a man getting up and woozily trying to walk away and the owner, his gun drawn, pushing him to the ground.

A man in his 20s was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, said officer Yolanda Dawkins, a police spokeswoman. A man in his mid-20s was shot in the face and back and was taken to Einstein Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, she said.

In S. Korean articles, the owner is identified as "Jason Lee." He reportedly gunned down suspects in another robbery attempt back in '93, too.

Some anti-gun nut will now decry the "senseless" death of the poor robber trying to get money for his drug habit.

I hate to see anyone die - it is never to be laughed about, and the reckless taking of life should not be tolerated. However, when confronted with an armed robber, the taking of the robber's life is justifiable homocide. To display "deadly force" in the commission of a crime makes one a "free fire zone" and keeping this up (agressive armed self defense by a business) will eventually help diminish robbery. I don't mean to be flippant, but at least it removes one more criminal from society that will eventually kill an innocent person - one less criminal - less crime.

A pair of headshots. Good shooting.

But not feeling too chipper I imagine. His partner however has acheived the ultimate in stable conditions.

Here is the link to the video. It only records the scene after the shootout is over. It contains some comments by readers. One of them says that he is a former SKor airborne brigade soldier. They definitely messed with the wrong guy.

That was polite of them, "Excuse me, may I have your attention..."

The wonders of web advertising allowed an American Airlines ad to promote flights to Asia on the nbc10.com page on this story. I just found that strange.
