there was a time when they were taking straw polls .. most were favorable to conviction .. 7-4, etc.
then they got to feeling they were holding people's feet to the fire and it got to be too much, so they stopped doing them and just got on with analyzing the case and their discussions

Denis with one 'N' was probably the most conservative on the damned jury.
Brit Hume didn't really just say that Libby was convicted of a crime that didn't exist until the investigation, did he? He can't possibly be this stupid? Can he?
The trial was about Libby lying to the FBI, lying to the Plame investigators, not the Plame leak. That is a different matter and was not part of the charges. It's one thing for Hume to be critical of the verdict, but can't he at least not be a total retard while doing it?
I am glad that this turned out the way it did. Obstruction of Justice and Perjury should not be tolerated. It isn't a partisan issue, well at least it wasn't in the 90's.
One last thing -- the legal process isn't done yet, so if there were errors you can bet that the verdict will be appealed and that the D.C. Circuit will look favorably on Libby.
Libby did, in fact, give interviews to the FBI within months after the conversations. And he did, in fact, testify to the GJ less than a year after those conversations. But we know you aren't concerned with facts, so keep spinning.

Lawyer Dennis Collins, 65, Headed Program for Youths

Dennis Collins, 65, a Washington attorney for 40 years who was active in church and youth work, died of cancer Saturday at his home in Washington.
Mr. Collins left his home in Abbeyfeale, Ireland, when he was 17 to join an older brother and sister in Washington.
After graduating from Western High School in 1934, he worked as a busboy, window washer and clerk. He became interested in law while making sandwiches at Greene's, a delicatessen on 6th and D streets NW frequented by lawyers and judges.
"Many a judge has told me I was a better sandwich maker than a lawyer," he would frequently joke. Mr. Collins earned a law degree at Columbus Law School in 1940 and joined the law office of Neil Burkinshaw. He leaves two partners, William Fitzgerald and Jerry Collins.
"I knew Dennis Collins as an opponent and as a judge," said D.C. Superior Judge Paul McArdle. "As an opponent I was completely at a disadvantage because I didn't have that Irish brogue which he cultivated so beautifully," McArdle said.
Mr. Collins was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Serra Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was president of the Nativity Elementary School Catholic Yough Organization sports program for 27 years. For most of these years, he would charter a boat on the Chesapeake Bay to take the grade school athletes on a fishing trip.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; two daughters, Mary Margaret Nicholaus of Silver Spring, and Angela Collins of Ashburn, Va.; four sons, Kevin of Bethesda, Joseph of Aldie, Va., and Denis and Brendan, both of Washington; a brother, Dan, of Ireland; four sisters, Nora Kelly, of Greenbelt, and Mary McGuire, Shelia Richardson, and Kathleen Stuart, all of Arlington, and two grandchildren.

The worst possible result caused by a committed, federal prosecutor with a possible hidden agenda and a jury which ought to have been informed that Scooter was NOT the leaker. Plaime was not a "victim" intended to be protected by the statute. On the other hand, going into a Grand Jury with the intent to lie under oath is reprehensible. 30 Years! For making a mistake in before the GJ. Oh, well . . . Spilled milk and all that. Bush could pardon the man and make everything moot. But I do not believe he wants to do that today. Maybe next year. Or just before he exits the White House. But even more daunting is what will surely happen next: Civil lawsuits will soon be filed in D.C. seeking millions. You cannot unring this bell. No matter how much you may wish it to go away.
He's no dummy. He's an author who has successfully pushed scandal-mongering in the past, including criticisms of Libby's WH office.
Jury duty was a winning powerball ticket for this guy. He will make a million dollars off this, which explains his breathless enthusiasm. "Where's Rove, where's Cheney......We were hoping for Bush," (stars in his eyes).
How did the judge and jury get that one juror thrown off? I thought she read something in the newspaper and went to the judge to tell him about it. Was there another juror thrown off the jury?

What was the crime before the investigation? The entire 'investigation' was a set up because there WAS no crime.

Rudy might be the answer. I am hoping that his prosecution of the union controlling Mafia would presage a fight against the union control of the legislature and I am hoping that his pragmatic realism means that he would not stand idly by and allow the postmodern metanarrative justice to pervert the system.
We need a strong leader who can articulate the dangers that are facing this country, both from within and from without.
