American Legion hosting Immigration Presentation by NumbersUSA on Monday
E-Mail Alert from NumbersUSA ^ | March 4, 2007 | Roy Beck

   From:   Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA
Date:   Sunday 4MAR07     10 p.m. EST

I'm giving my immigration presentation Monday to the national American Legion legis. conference

DEAR VETERANS AND FAMILIES OF VETERANS,

Thanks for taking the interest survey so I knew to whom to send this email.

I just wanted to let you know about a very nice opportunity for our movement that happens tomorrow. Perhaps you can use this information to help leverage what happens tomorrow into a burgeoning national movement of veterans to protect the American way of life from radical immigration policies.

Today began the annual national legislative convention for the leaders of the American Legion. Supposed to be around 1,000 attending.

The auditorium of the hotel will be devoted all afternoon to immigration issues because so many American Legion members have agitated for the organization to become more involved.

Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies will be the moderator and I will be one of three presenters and panelists. I will use the Census Bureau charts to show the magnitude of immigration and to help explain why the costs are so high to American citizens.

This is a meaningful setting for me: I happen to be a Vietnam-era veteran and a member of the American Legion -- and I basically grew up in the Legion because my WWII father was so active in every aspect of the local post and had me bugling taps as part of the Legion Honor Guard at WWI veteran funerals by the time I was aged 10 and through high school.

The American Legion (to the best of my knowledge) has been the leader among veterans groups in passing really good official statements about illegal immigration. But it hasn't thrown its lobbying weight behind solutions on the Hill, or in opposing the radical plans of Sen. Kennedy, Sen. McCain and Pres. Bush.

Unlike most national bureaucracies (unions, businesses, religion, political parties, etc.), the American Legion is responding to its members with this very special afternoon session.

I will report to you how it went.
!
But I hope all of you will use any connection you have to any part of the Legion or other veterans organization to encourage them to see the fight for immigration sanity as worthy of a national campaign by those who have served their country in uniform.

ONE THING YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW: Encourage all your veteran friends to log on to www.NumbersUSA.com and send a free fax.

We have provided a fax (for visitors only) that allows veterans to register their opinion as veterans. We have also provided a fax for "friends of veterans."

I have included the text of the fax below. You won't see it on your corkboard because it is just for visitors. (After I see how things go tomorrow, we'll probably put a fax opportunity on the corkboard for our faxer members who are veterans.)

Let us know about any contacts you make and any ideas you might have.

Let's get a wide conversation going among all of us who are veterans and family of veterans. National veterans leaders are one group of national leaders whom I could see possibly taking the side of the American people when no others will.

THANKS,

-- ROY

THIS IS THE FAX FOR VETERANS WHO VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR THE FIRST TIME WILL SEE AND CAN SEND TO THEIR 3 MEMBERS OF CONGRESS:

Dear (This fax will go to Your U.S. Representative and two Senators),

I am a veteran who is concerned about what federal immigration policies are doing to this country.

As a person who answered my nation's call to put on the uniform of my country and serve, I request that you consider that most of us veterans gave up a part of our lives -- and many of our colleagues gave their life itself -- out of a sense of duty to our national community and to preserve the American way of life and liberty.

The federal government's mostly recent addition of 50 million foreign workers and their dependents to o! ur prese nt community not only strains the financial resources of the American people but is robbing them of many aspects of the quality of life that we veterans thought we were protecting.

I am bewildered by the fact that this Congress is considering even higher levels of foreign workers -- higher levels of immigration -- higher levels of forced population growth and congestion on our local communities -- higher levels of total taxpayer subsidies to businesses who prefer hiring foreign workers over creating more attractive jobs for
American citizens.

What the nation needs is immigration REDUCTIONS, not immigration increases.

Sincerely, [Your Name Will Appear Here>

Please pass this along to any veterans you may know who are opposed to illegal immigration, illegal alien amnesty and radically increased LEGAL immigration!

If you know veterans who belong to veterans groups like the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, etc., encourage them to contact their veterans groups to get these veterans groups involved in the fight to prevent illegal alien amnesty, increased LEGAL immigration and preserving our American way of life.

This could be potentially big news if the American Legion could throw its weight against illegal alien amnesty and radically increases in LEGAL immigration.

Don't miss the great video by Roy Beck about immigration.

"This is a MUST SEE video for anyone interested in the immigration debate, whether you are a citizen, an illegal alien or a Congressman. ... all » This clip from the longer video, Immigration by the Numbers, features Roy Beck demonstrating the catastrophe of the huge numbers of both legal and illegal immigration by Third World people into the modern nations. He uses standard statistics (US Census) and simple gumballs to show this disaster in the making."

Thanks for ping, below is part of GOPUSA EMAIL.

According to Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa), illegal aliens murder 12 people every day... 4,380 every year.

That's 21,900 since 9/11 -- MORE THAN THE TOTAL KILLED IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN.

And that isn't all:

Congressman King reports that illegal aliens who are driving under the influence kill 13 people every day. 4,745 per year... 23,725 since 9/11.

A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study revealed that 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver without a valid license.

A California study found that those who have never received a valid driver's license are FIVE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO HAVE A FATAL ACCIDENT THAN THOSE WITH VALID LICENSES -- more dangerous than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked.

But there's more:

Congressman King also reports that illegal aliens molest 8 children every day. That's 2,920 every year.

Deborah Schurman-Kauflin of Atlanta's Violent Crimes Institute reports that around 240,000 illegal aliens are sex offenders.

So why are our elected officials ignoring those who are trying to come to this country legally, while at the same time pushing Amnesty for the 12-20 million who have broken our laws by living and working in the United States illegally?

There's Still More...

According to ESR Research Economic Consultants, by the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in all U.S. jails and prisons.

The average cost per day to house a federal inmate is $69, or over $25,000 a year. The average cost on the state level for 2000 was about $58 a day, or $21,170 yearly.

Multiply those figures by 267,000 and we're talking about $5.6 - $6.7 BILLION per year -- and our politicians tell you they can't find the money to build a border fence.

In April of 2005, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a study of 55,322 illegal aliens incarcerated at the federal, state, and local levels during 2003.

The 55,322 illegal aliens had been arrested a total of 459,614 times ñ Average that number out and thatís around eight arrests per illegal;

The total number of criminal offenses involved numbered around 700,000. That's about 13 offenses per alien.

36 percent had been arrested at least five times.

Author Peter Wagner, who writes on immigration issues, has said that a disproportionate number of those who enter the country illegally are murderers, sex offenders, and other types of criminals. "That is part of the dark side of illegal immigration Ö. The question is, how much 'bad' is acceptable and at what price?"

That's a good question.

One that at least 40 Senators had better answer the right way and in a big fat hurry.

Use the hyperlink below to send your urgent and personalized Blast Fax messages to the Republican leaders of the United States Senate, House of Representatives and President Bush.

Tell them that Amnesty was a bad idea last year and it's still a bad idea. Remind them that a vocal and committed minority can stop any bill from becoming law and patriotic Americans expect conservative Senators to step up to the plate and do what ever it takes to protect this country.

One Final Question...

What do you say to the self-righteous, the holier-than-thou liberals who say that we have always welcomed immigrants to our shores?

Sentimentalists argue that we must help the poor families of the world by employing husbands and fathers who work hard, send their money home, and long for the day when they can return to their loved ones.

If that scenario tugs at your heart strings, read this statement, posted on the web by a group of Mexican women:

"To the United States government -- close the border, send our men home to us, even if you must deport them (only treat them in a humane manner -- please do not hurt them)."

On that same website, wives post personal messages to their spouses begging them to return to their children. Here is a typical example, written to an absent husband named Pedro:

"You said you were only going to Arizona to get money for our house, but now you have been away and did not come back when your sister got married... Oh how I worry that you have another woman! Don't you love me? You told me you love me."

The advocates of Amnesty claim to be sympathetic to the plight of Mexican families.

Yet they appear to be taking the position that money is more important than children... that the family is worthless!

Whole villages are devoid of working-aged men.

Here are some statistics -- released by the Migration Policy Institute and published in the Washington Times. They will blow your mind:

In 2005, more than ten million Mexican-born people were living in the U.S. That's one-tenth of the total population of Mexico.

This exodus has had a negative impact on the Mexican economy.

Fully one-seventh -- 14 percent -- of the Mexican workforce is now laboring in the United States.

Mexican immigrants are, for the most part, younger men. 77 percent of Mexican workers in the U.S. are younger than 45 and 70 percent are men.
