Iran hangs man convicted of Revolutionary Guards attack
February 19, 2007
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran executed a defendant by hanging after a court convicted him of a bombing last week that killed 11 members of the elite Revolutionary Guards, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
Nasrollah Shanbe Zehi was executed at the site of the attack in Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran, the report said. The sentence was carried out a day after a revolutionary court convicted him of the bombing.
A car loaded with explosives blew up Wednesday near a bus carrying members of the elite military corps, killing 11 and wounding 31. Zehi was arrested a few hours after the bombing.
A Sunni militant group which some believe is linked to al Qaeda claimed responsibility. Jundallah, or God's Brigade, has also been blamed for past attacks on Iranian troops.
IRNA quoted an unnamed official as saying on Friday that Zehi confessed that the attacks were part of U.S. plans to provoke ethnic and religious violence in Iran.
The report said Zehi was also convicted of separate offenses including the deaths of four policemen and two civilians and a bank robbery.
The accusations come amid mounting tensions between Tehran and Washington over allegations of Iranian involvement in attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq, and over Iran's nuclear activities.
Jundallah has waged a low-level insurgency in southeastern Iran. In December, Jundallah claimed responsibility for kidnapping seven Iranian soldiers, but released them apparently after negotiations through tribal mediators.

Let's hope they got the wrong guy.
Or they have created a new martyr..
Thank God he wasn't tortured before they hung him.
You have a great sense of humour!! LOL!!
According to posts, this group who have been identified as jundallah, is calling itself, "Iranian People Resistance Movement" and says it's a member of the joint tribal resistance, also consisting of Lor, Bakhtiari and Qashqai tribes. 2 weeks ago, these tribal groups fought with IRGC in Isfahan area.
Hope they didn't taunt him before they hung him or the Old York Times will be writing a scathing editorial.

Why? You do know that AL QAEDA is behind the Sunni group responsible, right? The enemy of my enemy is not always my friend.
How horrible! (no sarcasm there).
Of course, Amnesty International and our own fuzzy Leftists must be up in arms over this travesty.
(now THAT'S sarcasm.)
>> You do know that AL QAEDA is behind the Sunni group responsible
No, to be honest, I DIDN'T know that.
Evidence, please?
No, the enemy of my enemy is not my friend, but 'red-on-red' is always helpful in any war.

Isfahan is spelled Esfahan on this map.
Well, for starters, it says so right in the article posted above, wit,
A Sunni militant group which some believe is linked to al Qaeda claimed responsibility. Jundallah, or God's Brigade, has also been blamed for past attacks on Iranian troops.
You can also read its Wikipedia article for more basic background. It is an Al Qaeda affiliate based in Waziristan, Pakistan, the main Al Qaeda and Taliban stronghold. Supporting Jundallah seems like a stupid, short-sighted move for US policy makers.
>> Well, for starters, it says so right in the article posted above,
Fair enough.
>> Supporting Jundallah seems like a stupid, short-sighted move for US policy makers
Uh, whatever you say. What evidence do you have (BESIDES CNN quoting IRNA quoting the perp) that "US policy makers" are behind this???
Look, I have none, and if I did have some, I wouldn't post it on this site. I'm not suggesting that the US is backing Al Qaeda, I'm saying it's stupid for posters on this site to be rooting for the same people who are flying planes into your buildings.
Wow.
They investigated the case, found the culprit, gave him a trial, and then executed him all in less than a week.
He probably got off easy on torture by confessing quickly to the crime.
Now we are amid total silence from all the do gooders in the world that daily condemn the United States.
Where in the hell is the UN and the other worthless human rights groups? Why are they not all over CNN saying this man's sentence was carried out too quickly, he did not get a fair trial, etc. Liberals suck with their hypocrisy.
And didn't they all bitch and winge about Saddam's "rushed" execution, let alone his "humiliation" when they first caught the SOB. Liberal BS in the form of multiculturalism, relativism and post-modernism are the same thing - self serving hypocrisy.
